About the Winery
Our deep-rooted passion for farming and grape growing spans generations. After producing grapes for decades, we established Cantina Canaio in 2014, focusing on crafting our own wines. Located in Cortona, our estate predominantly cultivates Syrah, with a smaller portion dedicated to Merlot. Our winery is housed in a beautifully restored country house that has been in our family since the 1600s. The name "Canaio" honors an ancestor known for his love of hunting and his many hounds.
About the Wines
At Cantina Canaio, we proudly produce 100% Syrah and 100% Merlot wines, two varieties that thrive in the Cortona region. Our philosophy is rooted in quality, with no shortcuts taken in the vineyard or winery. Each vintage is unique, reflecting the character of our land and our dedication to excellence. Our wines embody the distinctiveness of Tuscany, offering a personal and cozy experience with every sip.

Wonderful experience!
Cantina Canaio Winery was the most wonderful experience. Set in beautiful surroundings overlooking the Tuscan countryside. The hosts Pietro and Claudia made us feel so welcome and relaxed. Claudia made some delicious food to go along with the superb wine combinations. Definitely worth a visit and I I can highly recommend it.
Pleasant experience
We were at Cantine Canaio and it was a truly pleasant experience.
Mirco welcomed us with great kindness and accompanied us on a tour of the cellars, explaining clearly how he works: you can immediately see that behind every choice there is care, attention, and above all, so much passion.
They produce few bottles and few wines, but the quality is very high: everything we tasted was focused, clean, and with a beautiful personality.
After the tour, we did the tasting, accompanied by appetizers and a first course: everything was delicious, well-chosen products, and more than satisfying portions.
I highly recommend the visit: it's one of those places where they don't just sell you wine, but they transmit a story and an enthusiasm that stays with you. Compliments to Mirco!

Wine experience at Cantina Canaio
We had such a lovely experience at the family owned Cantina Canaio! The winery is in a beautiful location. Photos simply cannot fully capture the picturesque countryside. We were so warmly welcomed upon our arrival. The wine tour was interesting and our guide was so informative and charming. The "light" lunch was fantastic and also quite filling and tasty! We enjoyed all the wines that we tasted and ordered some to ship home (and bought a couple bottles to take with us). We had a relaxing experience in such a tranquil setting. Highly recommend Cantina Canaio experence!

We visited the family run vineyard Cantina Canaio, between Cortona and Montepulciano for a wine tasting and lunch to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. What a fantastic event, it far exceeded our expectations.
Firstly we had the place to ourselves so we felt more like special guests rather than tourists. Marzia spoke excellent English and gave us a great background to the history of the vineyard and the renovations which the family have undertaken over the last 10 years or so. Then followed a tour of the winery and cellar and a description of the wine making process which was very informative and interesting.
After this we were shown into the dining room for the wine tasting and lunch. We had a 3 course meal which was described as a light lunch complete with descriptions of every course in Italian by the lovely and enthusiastic cook. Thank goodness Marzia could translate. The wines were all delicious and we each had different favourites - mine was the rosé. There is no pressure to buy any wines but we couldn’t resist stocking up with a few bottles to take back to our Villa.

Perfect
The setting was stunning and our tour guide Marcia was excellent. We enjoyed the tour and learnt a lot as well. The wines we sampled were lovely and the accompanying food was delicious, in fact I am planning to try to recreate the pasta! We enjoyed looking at the book of photographs showing how the farmhouse had been recreated.
