About Winery and Wines
The Cantina del Mandrolisai is located in Sorgono, a village in the Mandrolisai area, in the center of Sardinia, an area with a strong vocation for agriculture, with cultivars such as Cannonau, Monica and Muristellu, which produce full-bodied, deep red wines with great personality, perfectly embodying the spirit of this land.
The winery takes its name from the Mandrolisai region, one of the most inland regions of Sardinia and one of the most famous of the island's traditional wine-producing areas. The wine vocation of Mandrolisai comes from its particular geographical characteristics, with high hillside soils, sunny and magnificently exposed. The climate, characterized by little rain and a long summer, also contributes to the success of the wines, guaranteeing the perfect ripening of the grapes even in the coolest years.
The traditional quality and uniqueness of the area's wines have led to Mandrolisai becoming one of the Sardinian DOC wines. The Cantina Sociale del Mandrolisai today produces a range of mainly red wines, but also white and rosé wines. The wines are clearly distinguished by their structure, some of which are matured for a long time in oak barrels.
Cantina Del Mandrolisai is located in one of Sardinia's most esteemed wine regions, known for its robust and distinct red wines. Vine cultivation spans across 1200 hectares with an annual production of approximately 45,000 quintals of grapes. The winery predominantly focuses on red grape varieties, specifically Bovale Sardo (also known as Muristeddu), Cannonau, and Monica di Sardegna. These three varieties form the foundation of the DOC Mandrolisai wine.
The blend for Mandrolisai DOC adheres to the following composition:
Bovale Sardo or Muristeddu must account for no less than 40% of the blend.
Cannonau makes up between 25% and 30%.
Monica di Sardegna contributes between 20% and 30%.
These varieties must constitute at least 90% of the wine, with the remaining 10% made up of other recommended grape varieties. The careful balance of these grapes, combined with the low yield per hectare (less than 40 quintals), ensures a wine that expresses the rich terroir and heritage of the Mandrolisai region.
