Cantina Fausta Mansio

Winery in Val di Noto

About the Winery

Cantina Fausta Mansio is located in the picturesque Val d'Anapo, a prime viticulture area in Syracuse, approximately 50 meters above sea level. The estate covers 12 hectares, with 7 hectares of vineyards planted in 1999 and 3 hectares of olive groves established in 1995. The vineyards thrive on clayey soil, contributing to the exceptional quality of the grapes, all cultivated under a certified organic regime to preserve the natural integrity of the land.

The winery was founded by Fausto Consiglio, driven by a passion for wine and a deep commitment to reviving one of Syracuse’s oldest traditions: Moscato di Siracusa. This ancient wine, once known as "Pollio" in Roman times and brought to Sicily by the Greeks, was a key part of the region’s heritage. Recognized with DOC status in 1973, Moscato di Siracusa nearly vanished due to economic crises that forced the replacement of vineyards with citrus groves. However, in the late 1990s, Fausta Mansio replanted these native vines, preserving this significant cultural and oenological tradition.

Today, the winery continues to uphold its mission of producing high-quality, organically farmed wines that reflect the rich history and unique terroir of the Syracuse region. The dedication to tradition, combined with modern winemaking techniques and respect for the environment, makes Cantina Fausta Mansio a compelling destination for wine lovers seeking an authentic Sicilian experience. Visitors to the winery can immerse themselves in the legacy of one of the world’s oldest wines while enjoying the stunning landscape of Val d'Anapo.

About the Wines

Cantina Fausta Mansio specializes in crafting wines from native Sicilian grape varieties, adhering strictly to organic farming principles. The winery produces a variety of wines including:

White Wines: Grillo and dry Moscato, known for their fresh, vibrant flavors.
Rosé Wines: Dry Moscato and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering a refreshing and aromatic profile.
Red Wines: Nero d'Avola, a bold and rich expression of Sicily's signature grape.
Sweet Wines: Moscato di Siracusa and Passito, which both embody the rich, historic sweetness of the region.

All wines are made without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or additives, employing spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts to preserve the varietal aromas. The commitment to organic practices extends to the vineyard and cellar, where hand-harvesting ensures the highest quality of both grapes and olives. The wines are left unclarified to maintain their authentic characteristics, allowing the true essence of Sicily to shine through in every bottle.

Refreshing in every way!
We enjoy wine. We make wine a destination when we travel - and also at home in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Our visit to Fausta Mansio was beyond expectations. Owner and winemaker, Olaf, greeted us warmly and told us about this family owned winery and the history of the local grapes. (Visit to learn the details.) Then came the tasting. Each wine was excellently paired with a delightful offering prepared by Olaf's wife, Paula. Everything we knew about the Moscato grape was replaced by a new understanding of what can be done with it in the hands of a gifted winemaker. Dry, well-balanced, refreshing! All four of the wines we tasted were expertly crafted. We shared wine, food and conversations like old friends. I highly recommend you discover Fausta Mansio when you're in the beautiful city of Siracusa.

Enjoyable and informative
We had a lovely day at Cantina Fausto. The wines were excellent and the accompanying food clearly complemented the wines. The location was beautiful and relaxing. The information given was extensive and insightful. Thoroughly recommend this place.

Maybe do some advertising as the local guides and taxi drivers don’t seem to know the place.

Cosy, Family Wnetasting
Arrived early for the tasting but this was no problem to Rolf, the owner, who greeted us and adjusted his schedule to suit. We had the five wine, five home made tapas option pairing food flavours to the wines. Rolf presented each wine in a casual but informative way, his English is very good so he could answer any questions and discuss the wines with us.
No tour was offered, just sitting on the patio under a canopy tasting five lovely wines - two each of white and red and a rose.
It is a small winery producing 20-25,000 bottles a year.
Other groups were present during our 3 hour visit but this was not a problem.
The vineyard is about a 15 minute drive or taxi ride from Siracusa Ortigia, no public transport options as it is in the countryside.
I appreciate that this is a tasting, but some examples of the equipment used to make the wine may have helped members of our party that had not visited a winery before.

Wonderful experience
We arrived early due to bus timings but our host didn’t keep us waiting and we were able to start the tour straight away. Our host Olaf was very friendly and informative and we enjoyed five generous tasting of wines each wine paired with a tapas. Very good value for money and we would very much recommend this tour.

Excellent
On arrival, we were greeted by Olaf, who was very polite and gave a service with a smile. All the wines tasted and the nibbles served with them were very delicious. We were very welcome and during the introduction of each wine, we were able to ask questions at any time. The place is spotless and relaxing.
I would suggest visiting Cantina Fausta Mansio as it was a unique experience.

My husband and I booked this experience while we were in our honeymoon in Sicily. This place is a must visit! Beautiful scenery, pretty patio and a selection of unique, complex, amazing wines served with appetizers freshly made right there by the host! The whole experience left us feeling great, and we would love to come back one day.

Fantastic winery
Beautiful environment, wonderful wine and pairings served by the wine maker and his family. Tasting was personable and easy to understand. Booking through windering was smooth and efficient. We highly recommend the wine tasting.
Take advantage of the tapa pairings. They do a wonderful job matching small courses with the wines.
