Cantina Matteo Rigoni
About the Winery
A visit to Cantina Matteo Rigoni is an experience for all the senses. There is natural beauty at every angle, and a peacefulness that is palpable. once you come you'll want to return.
The house and current home of “Cantina Matteo Rigoni” was built in 1608 by Cleric Giovanni Porto, who was of a noble family from Vicenza, one who had many palaces and properties in Vicenza’s centre. It was immediately destined to host a congregation of Margheritoni monks who were inspired by the reformed teachings of the Venerable Antonio Pagani, a singular religious figure with a vocation for asceticism and hermitage as well as the foundation of minor orders. Matteo's family bought the property from the Porto family around the turn of the 19th century and has since then been the sole owner.
About 20 years ago Matteo took the steps toward realising a dream which would marry the passions and beliefs he holds true. He redesigned his grandfather's vineyard and added many more, and began to cultivate his organic grapes. The 3.5 hectars of vineyards are all visible from the house, up and along the hills that fall into a valley on Monte Caldiero. His art has been refining with the passing years, and now his natural wines ferment spontaneously in locally sourced, above-ground terracotta amphoras.
As art mimics life this project is an ever-growing homage to the vitality of the ground on which it lies. Matteo is always studying how things can be done in the best way, while keeping in mind his objective: to let the nature of the terroir come through, aging gracefully, until it is brought to the mouth of whomever has the pleasure to drink it.

About the Wines
Our wines are made with care and respect for both us and the environment. They are organic and, since 2019, the fermentation of our grapes takes place spontaneously, in terracotta amphoras. Nothing is rushed or forced and Matteo strives to let the wine express both itself and its terroir.
Though we are in the Berici Hills of Vicenza the varietals we've got reflect personal taste and style as well as the terroir, rather than only tradition. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Incroccio Manzoni are found here, each exposed to the sun and the elements in unique ways. The vines are an average of 20 years old.
We have two brands of wines. One is the original, called "Rossorigoni", and is organic and was fermented with selected yeasts. Each year we produce a red and a white (called Biancorigoni), the blend determined by what came out best that year. We have our entire archive which can be visited and tasted, all the way until 2018. The second brand is called "Matteo Rigoni", and as before we have a white, Balù, and a red, Rospič. These wines are natural, in that they are fermented with indiginous (and not selected) yeasts. Our wines are almost all sulphite-free.

Authentic and recommended experience
After the tour of the winery, with clear and interesting explanations of the winemaking techniques, we concluded with a pleasant walk through the vineyards, in a wonderful and peaceful place.
The tasting of two whites, two reds, and the sparkling wine was accompanied by excellent and abundant appetizers and snacks, so much so that it seemed like a real lunch. Convivial atmosphere, also thanks to the company of other guests and the hosts.
Warm welcome, kind, helpful, and very attentive hosts.
Authentic and highly recommended experience.
The dessert offered was wonderful.
Curiously very pleasant
We were welcomed in a very very friendly manner by the owner Matteo, he explained a bit about the origin of the farmhouse after which we went to the cellar... In his small reality I must say he produces four excellent products, accompanied by dishes directly from his home kitchen...
I highly recommend it and if I have the chance I will not fail to go back.
Awesome Winery go with friends and Family!
During our tasting, we sampled three different wines, each one more delightful than the last. The quality and craftsmanship of these wines were evident in every sip. To complement the wine tasting, we enjoyed small plates featuring cheese and prosciutto. As vegetarians, my wife and I were thrilled to receive a special plate that consisted of beautifully roasted vegetables. This thoughtful gesture made our experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, our time at the winery was memorable thanks to Matteo’s hospitality and the exquisite wines we tasted. I highly recommend visiting this winery for anyone looking to enjoy great wine and delicious food in a welcoming atmosphere.
