About Winery and Wines
For over a century, the Varchetta family has rooted its identity in the land, passing down a deep respect for the territory through four generations of winemaking. The family’s journey began in 1892 when Vincenzo Varchetta transformed his passion for wine into a thriving business. His son Giovanni, known as "Don Giovanni," played a pivotal role in building on his father’s vision after returning from World War II, instilling his passion and expertise into the family legacy. In 1999, the family founded Astroni Winery, embarking on a mission to protect and enhance Campania’s rich ampelographic heritage. Nestled in the volcanic crater of Astroni, a WWF-protected oasis near Naples, Astroni Winery blends tradition with modern techniques to craft wines that honor the deep cultural and natural history of the region. The Varchetta family’s dedication to their land and heritage is at the heart of every bottle, making Astroni a destination for those who seek authenticity and quality in winemaking.
At Astroni Winery, our wines reflect the unique terroir of the Campania region, blending centuries-old traditions with cutting-edge cultivation and vinification techniques. Our vineyards, located in the volcanic soils surrounding the Astroni Crater, benefit from the rich minerality and microclimate of this natural oasis. We focus on native grape varieties such as Falanghina, Piedirosso, Aglianico, and Greco di Tufo, each meticulously cultivated to bring out the best of the land. Our winemaking process emphasizes sustainability and respect for nature, using modern techniques to enhance the rich flavors and aromas that Campania wines are known for. From fresh, vibrant whites to bold and structured reds, Astroni wines capture the essence of our region’s viticultural history, offering a taste of the land’s ancient volcanic origins combined with the innovation and passion of the Varchetta family. Every bottle is a tribute to the past and a promise for the future of Campanian wine.
