CANTINE CAPITANI

Winery in Bracciano Lake

About the Winery

In 1974, amongst the hills overlooking Lake Bracciano, set in the picturesque Lazio countryside, the Capitani family decided to follow their passion for wine and the culture of wine making. Francesco Capitani, founder of Trevignano Vino, established the first winery in the small town of Trevignano Romano. The company embraces the full wine production cycle, from the grafting of the plant, through tending to the vines, the harvesting of the grapes, the vinification and bottling of the wine and finally to the marketing of the finished product. He represents the first generation of winemakers in the family and is still in business, with the same passion he had at the beginning and, above all, with the same strong feeling of attachment to his land: these factors and values led him to try his own luck by creating his own business. Following in the footsteps of his farming grandparents, Francesco Capitani began to be interested in the culture of wine production from an early age, and as his experience as a vine-grower and vine-lover grew, he became an expert in the old-fashioned sense. Since the company was founded there have been important collaborations with professional figures, such as an agronomist for advice on caring for vines and a winemaker for guidance with wine production, which the company relies on, sharing the same enthusiasm for their work. Taking advantage of the very important sounding name, our family Capitani presented in 2015 the new "Cantine Capitani" brand, highlighting those famous family traditions that have maintained and will maintain the passion for wine production. A name that has played a great role in the design of the logo, the two "C" with the three stars and a name that also has revolutionised the shape of the label, from the classic rectangular shape, has become a "shield", a game of images that shows how important it is for us to maintain our business reputation. The production takes place in a large winery, along t

About the Wines

The company's original wines, still produced today were, a white "LacusTre Bianco" which is a blend of the native grapes Trebbiano, Greco and Malvasia; a red "LacusTre Rosso" a blend of the Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes and a Rosé wine from the Sangiovese grape. In the mid-2000s the second generation of the Capitani family embraced modern international wine production techniques, catapulting themselves into a new culture that reflects contemporary interests in the world of wine, still collaborating with experts such as agronomists and enologists whose expertises compliment the experience of Francesco Capitani. The company started by using Merlot and Syrah, vines well established in the volcanic land surrounding Lake Bracciano, fermented in both the modern steel vats but also in the more traditional oak vats. The company has continued his production with the international whites Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier; maintaining the purity of the different types of grape used as described on the bottle label. To date, the company also produces an Extra Virgin Olive Oil, using our own olives which are sent to local Mills for pressing. The Extra Virgin Olive Olive comes in various bottle and can sizes, it is also used as wedding souvenirs or for other special occasions.

Great Local Experience
The view is amazing even during the off-season, in the cold. The food and the bread were great, and the wine selection was good.
I've never liked red wine, tasting their local red wine was a game changer.

Nice experience
Nice experience, clear and useful explanation to appreciate the territory and the wine.

An explanation of the wines by a sommelier during the tasting would have been appreciated.
I would recommend this experience to wine lovers.
