Cantine Domenico Russo

Winery in Salento, Murge, Terra delle Gravine

About the Winery

The Winery Domenico Russo is a family-run company that brings together the passion for winemaking, respect for nature, and the ambition to produce premier-quality wines. Founded in 1998 in the countryside of Ginosa, near Taranto and just 22 km from Matera, this idyllic setting is blessed with moderate temperatures, hillside topography, and proximity to the Ionian Sea. Greenery envelops the property, where olive trees and an organic, espalier vineyard thrive in perfect tranquility.

Every stage of winemaking, from grape cultivation to bottling, is personally supervised by the Russo family. Owner Domenico Russo was driven by a deep love of the land and its traditions, pursuing the production of native wines and expanding his business with the acquisition of hillside sites in Bove Cesine. The original cellar-turned-showroom has since been joined by a modern winery, complete with state-of-the-art equipment for grape processing and bottling. Beyond the impressive investments in technology and infrastructure, the real power behind the company is the commitment to crafting only the highest quality wines.

About the Wines

Wines produced by Domenico Russo Winery are Primitivo in purezza, Primitivo del Salento IGP, Primitivo Passito, Malvasia Bianca, Sangiovese di Puglia and Spumante IGP Salento.

Excellent wines and a family atmosphere
A beautiful tasting experience of 6 excellent wines from Murgia and quality flavored oils, accompanied by local products.
The company of Mr. Domenico and his wife was pleasant. We spent a different kind of Sunday morning and we appreciated how it's possible to produce 'on a small scale' while preserving tradition but at the same time using knowledge and new technologies.
We are thinking of coming back for some summer evening!
Just a small note: the glass should always be changed for each wine offered, otherwise the aromas and flavors can overlap.

Wonderful experience
We were welcomed by a wonderful couple who for years have been managing a fine niche business, we were pampered with various tastings, not only of wine, but also of oils and typical local products, a fantastic experience.

Perfect tasting!
We had the pleasure of doing an amazing tasting at this winery, at a charming time and with captivating stories during walks inside the vineyards.
The tour continued inside and outside the estate, with the story of their centuries-old olive trees.
Afterward, Domenico and his wife had us taste the various flavored oils they produce, accompanied by crostini and white wine, which were sensational to say the least.
Later we were offered a tasting of red wines, accompanied by typical local products; I have no words to describe the goodness of everything we tasted.
All accompanied by a breathtaking sunset in the vineyard, as the sun went down and with a welcoming atmosphere.
Domenico and his wife exude an innate passion, a love for their work placed above all else; but especially, the sacrifice for having brought to light the great desire to create a business.
I highly recommend a tasting with them, nothing against the others, but they have something more.
Accompanying products tasted with the various types of wine, excellent!

A wonderful experience
Domenico, Luciana and Davide are wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable people, and on a human level, truly special.
Domenico and his wife created this beautiful establishment from scratch, small but wonderful.
The products are exceptional, the wine is delicious and so is the quality of the oils they had us taste.
We will definitely see you again!!!
P.S. Luciana's words: "It was a different experience" :)
A hug from Giuseppe, Cristina and little Vittoria!!

Exceptional experience
Unique experience. There were 4 of us and we all said the same thing, that this experience was the culminating moment of our short vacation. Mr. Domenico and his wife welcomed us upon our arrival and from there we went directly to the land where he explained the entire vineyard process to us in detail and also answered all our questions. Afterwards we visited the cellar and, the icing on the cake, the tasting experience, where we sampled some fabulous oils and wines accompanied by crostini and cold cuts. I recommend to all wine lovers (and non-lovers) to try this tour by Domenico Russo because it is an unforgettable experience.
