soloperto vini
(Winery in Taranto)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €30.00
Soloperto Vini is a family-run winery with deep roots in the heart of Apulia, dating back to the early 20th century. The winery's journey began when the Soloperto grandparents recognized the potential of the land and established one of the region's first wine commerce companies. In the late 1960s, Giovanni Soloperto took a groundbreaking step by bottling pure Primitivo in his small cellar, even before the DOC law was established, marking the beginning of a tradition that would shape the future of the winery.
Today, the cellar produces around 2 million bottles per year, with Primitivo di Manduria as its flagship wine, complemented by other traditional Apulian varieties such as Negroamaro and white grapes from the Murgia hills, contributing to the DOC wines of Martina Franca and Locorotondo.
Soloperto Vini’s philosophy is centered on promoting Apulian indigenous grape varieties, crafting both approachable, ready-to-drink wines and more complex, age-worthy selections. Each bottle embodies the rich history and terroir of Apulia, delivering a unique taste of the region to the world.
Giovanni Soloperto's legacy continues through his children, Sabrina and Ernesto, who now run the winery. Their mission remains the same as their father's: to champion the Primitivo grape and to restore dignity and pride to the land and its people. Giovanni's pioneering spirit and vision, from offering better prices to local grape growers to putting Primitivo di Manduria on the map, are the foundation of the winery's ongoing success.

An ancient masseria surrounded by vineyards was chosen as the ideal location for the winery, ensuring that the grapes are vinified close to where they are grown. The modern facility, situated in the Roselle district of Maruggio, lies just 5 km from the Ionian Sea and sits in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP. The estate takes its name from the region’s distinctive trulli saraceni, scattered across the landscape. In Puglia, the term masseria refers to the central rural building where agricultural products are processed and stored.
Designed to harmonize with the surrounding environment, the winery was built beside a carefully restored historic masseria. The contrast between state-of-the-art winemaking technology and the traditional tufo stone structure, once used as an animal shelter, highlights the fusion of innovation and heritage. Viticulturist in the area of Gioia del Colle, mother land of the primitive vine, he moved to the borders of the sea in order to have his commitment and hard work rewarded by unique wines for their aroma, richness and concentration.
The landscape of the vineyards which go as far as the sea, the audacity of the son Andrea and of the grandson Nicola; the tenacity of the viticulturists, ready to cultivate them often for pure love and against any economic and market logic, does justice to the will of submitting nature to the extreme limits.
The more than 30 hectares of land from which Tenuta Trefontane is made up, are cultivated with the care of a garden, plant by plant, fruit of a passion that has always pushed the farmers, almost "guests" of a painting with bittersweet hues, to consider the wine activity a philosophy, with the absolute priority of the quality of the product over any market consideration.
