Absolutely Fantastic Experience - Private and so fun

Rate: 5 out of 5 10/1/24
We were staying in Braga and just a short distance away is this wonderful family owned Winery that we just had to try. Our experience was wonderful! Private for just the 4 of us. Toured the workings of the winery and then had the tasting. She offered a great charcuterie board and we tasted 4+ wines. Most of their wine is sold only in Portugal so it was great to really experience a true, small, family owned winery. We of course purchased quite a few bottles of wine for the rest of our trip and enjoyed every one - white, red and bubbly. Don't miss this. You won't regret it!

About Winery and Wines

Located in the heart of Minho, Casa Lata is set within a charming rural property of approximately 3.6 hectares in Amares, nestled between Braga and the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal.

With a rich history as a traditional Minho farmhouse, the estate was once dedicated to agriculture, livestock, vineyards, and winemaking. Remnants of these past activities, such as the granary, wine press, still, and various agricultural tools, can still be seen today. The decoration and furnishings honor the heritage of earlier times, now adapted to create a cozy games room and bar where the original stone wine press still stands, a reminder of the estate’s winemaking roots.

Today, the family business is led by José Carlos Costa and his daughter Margarida, who have brought the estate back to life after restoring the property, which once belonged to their relatives, the Pereira Lata family. This project serves as a tribute to them, preserving their legacy and passion for this land.

Casa Lata produces wines that capture the typical profile of Vinho Verde — young, aromatic, and full of character — using native grape varieties grown in the estate’s local vineyards. The entire winemaking process, from planting the vines to labeling the bottles, is carried out on-site to ensure exceptional quality.

Set amidst a traditional landscape, the estate features a modern wine cellar where Terras de Amares wines are carefully crafted. These wines reflect the essence of the Vinho Verde region, located between the Cávado and Homem Rivers, and highlight the unique characteristics of the indigenous grape varieties.
