About Winery and Wines

Passionate about wine, travel, and history, Annick and Pascal Danglas made a bold decision to embark on a new adventure: the acquisition of a vineyard. In 2005, they set their sights on the ancestral domain of Château de Paraza, located in the Minervois region. They enthusiastically accepted the challenge of overseeing their first grape harvest as a family.

"Between us, we hadn't anticipated just how complex it would be to take over the estate. However, this unforeseen challenge brought us together. First, it was Matthieu, then Antoine, and finally the youngest, Lucile. We were all irresistibly drawn to this incredible endeavor of tending to the land, crafting exceptional wine, and renovating the property to share it with our visitors."

Guided by their parents' dream, these siblings have actively contributed to the family enterprise, each bringing their unique expertise and innovation to the table.

Château de Paraza is a multifaceted estate, comprising several distinct areas. On one side, there's the 17th-century château, which holds a special historical significance as it once hosted Paul Riquet. This part of the estate has been tastefully transformed into charming guest rooms that seamlessly blend the allure of the past with modern comforts through a meticulous renovation.

On the other side, you'll find our château's cellar, housing both the wine production facilities, featuring a variety of tanks for vinification, and a splendid 18th-century tasting cellar. The recently renovated tasting cellar offers a picturesque setting, where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings while being surrounded by our diverse wine offerings, ready for your tasting pleasure.

Inside the tasting cellar, you'll have the opportunity to explore our collection and indulge in a tasting experience. Additionally, we provide a selection of local products in a small grocery area, offer our wines directly for sale, and provide comfortable seating for those who wish to linger and enjoy a glass.

At Château de Paraza, we invite you to savor our rich history, fine wines, and the welcoming ambiance of our estate, where the past harmonizes with the present.

The vineyard is composed of numerous plots of traditional grape varieties with old vines of Syrah, Grenache Noir, and Mourvèdre. More recently, other grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Marselan, Roussanne, Gewurztraminer) have been replanted to introduce diversity into the winery.

SOILS: Clay-limestone soils in alluvial areas, with siliceous pebbles from the Black Mountain.

CLIMATE: Hot and sunny, with nearly 300 days of sunshine per year, strongly influenced by the Tramontane wind (except in 2018!).

CULTURAL PRACTICES - HVE: The vineyard is managed in a sustainable manner with cultural practices often similar to those of organic agriculture and certified as High Environmental Value. Every day, special attention is given to the vines, their environment, and factors that could impact their development. Respect for the terroir dictates minimal human intervention in the vineyard, based on climatic conditions, disease risks, and vine receptivity stages.

WINE EXPRESSION: Château de Paraza produces wines with character, offering a rich aromatic profile and a balanced structure. The winemaker's signature is expressed through highlighting the fruit and silky tannins. Currently, we offer over 13 different wines, ranging from red to white, including rosé.
