Cálem is one of the most historic and renowned Port wine houses in Portugal, founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem in Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the Douro River from Porto. From the very beginning, the winery was driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, exporting Port wine to Brazil using its own fleet in exchange for exotic woods—an adventurous legacy symbolized today by the iconic caravel in its logo.
