Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia
(Winery in Garda Lake, Valtenesi)
Reviews
Amazing tour of the Costaripa wineyards
Our guide, Francesco, did a fantastic job — he was friendly, easy to understand, and very engaging in his presentation.
We were particularly impressed by both the wines and the vineyard itself. It’s clear from the very beginning that this winery is all about quality. While most wineries rely heavily on machines, Costaripa still performs much of the work manually — limiting production in favor of craftsmanship and excellence.
Let me tell you, I come from the same industry, and this is the best wine I’ve ever tasted. Their still Rosé is out of this world, and the sparkling Rosé is just as exceptional. Everyone we met was also incredibly kind and welcoming.
If you’re looking for a great activity, or if you’re genuinely interested in wine, the Costaripa tour is an experience well worth the money. I’d recommend it to anyone.
Thank you very much for having us!

Fantastic tour and wine in top end
15.000 bottles was manuelle turned by hand several times each day. To "clean" the wine before corking it (you need to see for understanding).
This was also one of the job our tourguide, Caroline, did douring her woorking day.
She was also fantastic. University educated in vinery and spoke a perfect and fluid English.
No questions was unanswered, bravo.
Youngest wine was 6 years. So naturally also in the higher prize level, but ok for this quality of wine.
They have all types of wine, red, white, rose, sparkling ex..
So for us it was a good experience and a bit expensive, as we also left with 3 boxes of our favorite wine

About Winery and Wines
Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia is deeply rooted in the winemaking traditions of Valtènesi, where viticulture has thrived since at least 1896. At the heart of its production is the rare and delicate Groppello Gentile grape, known for its tight, conical blue bunches that ripen beyond mid-September. This variety thrives exclusively in the well-ventilated, light soils of Lake Garda’s foothills, particularly on east and south-facing slopes, making Valtènesi its ideal habitat.
The vineyards of Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia, averaging over 35 years in age, are cultivated with deep respect for origin — or “ORIGIN,” as the winery prefers to call it, balancing the value of the subsoil with that of the topsoil. Since 2005, the winery has reintroduced the Massale selection method while strictly prohibiting irrigation to preserve the authenticity of the terroir. Every step, from pruning to harvesting, is performed manually following biodynamic principles.
Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia views winemaking as a eulogy to imperfection and craftsmanship—a celebration of slowness, manual gesture, and the intuitive connection between human hands and the land. Wines are vinified traditionally, with musts fermented in small white oak barrels, and the Classical Method sparkling wines undergo manual remuage. This philosophy, grounded in humility and artisanal legacy, continues to guide a noble and thoughtful approach to viticulture and winemaking.
Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia crafts rosé wines that serve as a refreshing antidote to formality and the monotony of daily life. These wines stand out for their elegance and nonconformity, capturing the senses with exotic and violet-scented fragrances, silky and persuasive bouquets, and a persistent sapidity that reflects their Mediterranean roots. With a characteristic mellow powder-pink hue and pearl-like brilliance, Costaripa's rosé wines are distinguished by their refined structure—achieved through careful refinement in small white oak barrels, which enhances both aromatic depth and aging potential.
The grapes for these rosés are cultivated in carefully selected foothill vineyards exposed to the rising sun, harvested exclusively by hand in the cool early morning hours to ensure optimal ripeness. The winery applies a traditional “Tear-drop Vinification” method, where gravity alone separates the must from the skins, extracting only the purest, most noble juice. The use of small white oak barrels during fermentation and refinement amplifies the wine's longevity and complexity, defining the unmistakable style of Costaripa di Vezzola Mattia.
This philosophy extends to the sparkling wines, guided by the “Mattia Vezzola Style” since 1973—an approach rooted in the symbiosis of tradition and innovation. Born from a vision of creating a refined, elegant, and harmonious classic method sparkling wine, this style evokes the softness and grace of an inimitable silk scarf. Only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from Valtènesi and the outer moraines of Lake Garda are used, harvested manually and pressed as whole bunches to extract only the free-run must. Part of this must ferments in small white oak barrels, with a portion aged over decades to build the backbone of cuvées that merge up to 40 different wines, ensuring a consistently elegant and expressive profile year after year.
