About Winery and Wines
The entire adventure behind Adega da Gaveta began with Grandfather José Margarido.
The name ‘Adega da Gaveta’ was chosen as a tribute to Grandfather Zé. In rural areas, it was a tradition for friends to gather on weekends and visit each other’s wine cellars. When it was José Margarido’s turn to host, there was always something to snack on in the wooden table’s drawer—a piece of history that remains to this day.
The winemaker, Francisco, grandson of José Margarido, initially trained in Electrotechnical Engineering, developed a deep passion for winemaking. Even before completing his studies in Enology, he realized the need to explore the potential left behind by his grandfather.
The winery follows organic farming principles with a minimal intervention approach, both in the vineyard and the cellar. This method ensures an authentic expression of the Tejo region, specifically the Tomar sub-region. The philosophy behind the wines is that they should reflect what the grapes naturally provide, which is why only stainless steel tanks are used for both fermentation and aging. Additionally, all wines produced are vegan-friendly.
