Montemelino
(Winery in Lake Trasimeno)
About Winery and Wines
Montemelino is an organic farm spanning approximately 60 hectares, situated on the northern hills of Lake Trasimeno, between Umbria and Tuscany, at an elevation of around 300 meters. Established in 1961 by Margret and Guido, the estate is now managed by their daughter Sabina and her partner Pier, who continue the family's passion for quality wine and olive oil production.
Montemelino offers a range of wines, each reflecting the potential of their respective grape varieties:
Red Wines:
Rosso IGT Umbria: A traditional red wine based on Sangiovese, complemented by other red grapes. Aged for about a year in oak barrels, it boasts ripe tannins and good texture.
Vinea Alta - DOC Trasimeno: Produced from fully matured Pinot Noir grapes, this wine undergoes approximately a year of aging in oak barrels, resulting in a wine of great structure, finesse, and persistence.
White Wines:
Bianco IGT Umbria: Crafted from native Umbrian white grape varieties, Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano Spoletino, this dry and intense white wine highlights freshness and minerality, suitable for various occasions.
Rosé Wine:
Ciliegio – Organic Rosé IGT Umbria: Made from lightly pressed Ciliegiolo grapes, this rosé exemplifies fresh and fruity notes, with a balanced structure and pleasant acidity, versatile for different moments.
Visitors are welcome to the winery for tastings, guided tours of the estate, and direct purchases from the cellar door, offering an immersive experience into the rich winemaking tradition of Montemelino.
