Pian del Pino – Organic artisan wines from the Pianalti del Valdarno

Pian del Pino is a small family-run winery founded in 1953 in the Pianalti del Valdarno, between Arezzo and Florence, at the foothills of the Pratomagno. It is a story rooted in this land across generations, carried forward today through a direct, daily and hands-on approach, from vineyard to bottle.

I am Giovanni Batacchi, and I personally oversee every stage of the production process. This is essential for us: wine does not come from standardized procedures, but from observation, experience, and a constant relationship with the land, the vines, and each vintage.

We farm our vineyards according to our own Metodo Agricolo Naturale (M.A.N.), an approach that places soil vitality, biodiversity, vine balance and respect for natural timing at its core. For us, working naturally is not about following a trend, but about creating the conditions for the vine to express itself authentically.

In the cellar, we follow the same philosophy: spontaneous fermentations, minimal intervention, and no pursuit of artificial effects or stylistic standardization. Our goal is not to engineer wines to perfection, but to accompany living wines that are recognizable and true to their origin.

We produce organic artisan wines that express another Tuscany: more essential, more free, more identity-driven. Wines that aim for precision, energy and balance, without opulence and without shortcuts.

Behind every bottle, there is a daily commitment made of real choices, attention to detail and constant presence. The experiences at Pian del Pino come from this approach: not staged visits, but genuine opportunities to connect with a living winery, its territory, and the way we understand wine.

Pian del Pino wines – interpretations, not categories

Pian del Pino wines are not made to fit into a style, but to interpret, each time, the relationship between grape variety, place and vintage. We do not aim to replicate a model: each wine is a different reading of the same territory.

We mainly work with traditional Tuscan grape varieties — Sangiovese, Colorino del Valdarno, Canaiolo, Malvasia, Trebbiano — alongside varieties that have found an unexpected expression here, such as Tempranillo. These are not random choices: each variety is grown and vinified to understand what it can become in this specific context.

The labels do not represent a hierarchy, but directions of research. Some wines are more immediate and dynamic, others deeper and more layered, while others explore different forms, such as rosés or bottle refermentations. All of them, however, share the same guiding thread: precision, energy, and fidelity to the vineyard.

For this reason, we have started to express each wine through a single word: not a slogan, but a key to understanding. A word that helps capture its essential character, even before any technical description.

Because, in the end, a wine is not something to be explained, but something to be recognized.
