About Winery and Wines
Quinta da Penina started in 2000, during a time when cooperatives in the Algarve began closing, paving the way for small producers. By 2007, the winery had its own cellar, producing wines inspired by the local history, including the João D’Arens series. Located in Portimão and Lagoa, the estate’s terroirs combine local and French grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Castelão, and Negra Mole. Visitors are welcomed for guided tours, where they can learn about the winemaking process and enjoy tastings.
Quinta da Penina and Foral de Portimão wines come from carefully cultivated vines, producing a range of exceptional reds, whites, and rosés. Indigenous varieties like Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, and Crato Branco are blended with French grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, resulting in unique wines full of character. The estate also includes one of the oldest vineyards in the Algarve, located at Quinta da Palmeirinha, known for its rare Negra Mole variety, further enhancing the distinctiveness of their wines.
