Quinta do Paço de Calheiros

Winery in Vinho Verde

About the Winery

Quinta do Paço de Calheiros is a stunning 17th-century estate located on a hillside with breathtaking views of Ponte de Lima and the surrounding vineyards. Owned by the Count of Calheiros, the property features beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, tennis courts, orchards, and a chestnut forest. The estate also serves as a guest house with rooms furnished in period style. Visitors can enjoy tours of the historic interior, followed by wine tastings and an exploration of the property’s gardens and vineyards, offering a serene and immersive experience.

About the Wines

Quinta do Paço de Calheiros produces the green wines Loureiro and Vinhão, varieties unique in the world and found only in this region.

Loureiro is a very fruity and soft wine, very pleasant to drink chilled. Vinhão has a very rosy red color and has important digestive properties that go well with the rich gastronomy of the region.

The property has excellent conditions for viticulture, both for its exposure to the sun and for the characteristics of the soil, producing excellent wines, the highlight of which is the 2012.

Excellent
Shown around the fascinating house and then sampled wines from the estate while relaxing with a great view over the vineyards and valley

Pleasant couple of hours
Our expectation of the visit was different to the reality. We had thought it would be informative with some history of the house, information on the wines we were given to taste and tour of the winery. Actually we were shown some rooms of the house, given two bottles of wine and some lovely cheese and meats to sample and then left to explore the grounds. The grounds are beautiful and views wonderful so it was a pleasant trip but we had expected some information on the wines and a tour of the winery.
Ensure the visit is advertised correctly. Include a tour of the winery and some information on wine production.
