About Winery and Wines

Since 1967 Giuseppe Stracci has raised vineyards for himself and other wine-growers in the Piceno area. However, it was only in 2003, a very good vintage year, that his sons Lino and Fabrizio decided to invest in a dream: to build a winery and make wine from their own vineyards. In a historical map the two brothers saw “San Filippo” engraved twice as an indication of the water streams enclosing their ancestors’ lands. As a sign of respect, they chose it as the name of their estate. The vineyards of the estate have slowly grown in number since then, until covering 65 hectares. Lino has taken care of them since their birth. Each grape variety needs a terroir, each vineyard specific attention. The Stracci family strives to maintain Marches’ 20th century rural culture alive, a culture in which the family’s land-bound integrity thrives.

Since the very beginning, “organic” is the key concept in San Filippo’s winemaking philosophy. In the Piceno area, organic farming is the rule, not the exception. The many organic farmers here are laying a sound basis for a land that’s free of chemicals, paving the way for the territory’s return to its original biodiversity and naturalness. Keeping the sulphite content at its mere minimum helps the well-being of those who will be drinking the wine. The tasting experience does not end in the palate, but in the sensations and in the pleasure that follow.

San Filippo's wines take inspiration from the land that generates them and the animals that live in our vineyards, in perfect harmony with our grapes.

A bed of culture, tradition and nature, the Marches region is, in essence, perfectly summarised in the environment of Offida, where folklore, landscape, food and wine preserve their original authenticity. Offida is located in the heart of Piceno, 30 minutes away from the snowy peaks of the Apennines mountain range and 20 minutes away from the golden beaches of the Adriatic Sea. The narrow streets of the medieval village stand out from the harmonious surrounding hills, where steep calanques and orderly vineyards seem to coexist like respectful neighbours. An environment that generates unevenly-shaped but thoughtfully-placed vineyards. The sharp edges of the area encased within these geographic coordinates may suggest an unyielding environment. Instead, it conceals a harmony of crops which is typical of the Marches’ landscape.

Thanks to 20 years of organic farming, the biodiversity in San Filippo’s environment has been steadily growing. Each element of the ecosystem is an essential part of the entire food chain, and encounters with roe deer or buzzards are becoming less and less rare between the vineyards. Since ancient times, animals have been venerated as totems and have been considered stewards of the entire community. In the same way, San Filippo finds inspiration in the wild fauna that inhabits its lands. The historical vineyards of the family-run company are best symbolised by the animals populating them, finding here the ideal conditions to thrive. The Wolf, among steep woods of the Ciafone, the Roe Deer, in the fresh water streams and lush underbrush in the valley bottoms, the Hoopoe, amongst the orderly hill ridges, the Buzzard, above the tall and isolated oaks.

Our vast range of wines tries to honour our land and the natural beings that inhabit it. From our local prides Passerina and Pecorino to the Italian classics Montepulciano and Sangiovese or the internationally renowned Chardonnay and Merlot, San Filippo has something for every taste, in both bottle and bag-in-box format.
