Lovely afternoon at Muscazega

9/1/23
We had a lovely afternoon at Muscazega. We've tasted 3 really good wines, white, rose, red. Vermentino and nebbiolo. Nice platters with yummy finger food. Amazing views and very quiet surroundings. Laura, the owner, entertained us with stories about the winery and Sardinia. Very nice lady! We had a short walk around the vineyard too.
One thing to note is that is not a group thing, it's just you and the owner.
- make sure you get the correct address from the host
- don't stop your navigation half way. There are many areas with no mobile data coverage and it might get difficult to search the address again when you have no internet nor signal to make calls.

About Winery and Wines

In the heart of the Sardinian Northeastern territory of Gallura comprising the villages of Luras, Nuchis and Tempio Pausania lies the historic estate of "MUSCAZEGA" – Blindman’s buff" in Sardinian language. Extending over about a hundred acres, the estate is surrounded by the Minnisio and San Paolo streams and includes a suggestive bridge "Ponte Nughes" of Roman origins. Set in luxuriant nature with an early nineteenth-century ancient manor house, called “Stazzu Gallurese”, in the center, the estate is today vinifying the Nebbiolo I.G.T. and Vermentino Superiore D.O.C.G. rigorously all single varietal wines. Laura Carmina, a Roman painter head over heels in love with Sardinia, praised this granite land of poignant beauty in 2006, running the busines with great passion. Laura renovated the estate, converting it into a winery. MUSCAZEGA, an envisioned vineyard created in the unspoiled hilly lands of the emblematic Mount Limbara, whose sharp granite rocks are softened in pastel shades, pink, violet and gray as the light varies on the horizon. Lights and shadows ... twisted cork trees seem to chase each other amidst pastures and hay fields, patches of centenarian olive trees curved by the Mistral, dry stone walls outline shapes interrupted by bushes of strawberry trees, blackberries, hollies, figs ... scents of scrub, myrtle, juniper ... Under a wild pear tree a horse grazes along with a donkey ... blue thistle flowers ... in the sky, far away, a hawk swoops down ...

The Nebbiolo grapes imported from Piedmont about 200 years ago found in this place the ideal soil to express their unique characteristics, eventually earning the I.G.T. appellation. Vermentino Superiore D.O.C.G., globally recognized as the purest and foremost white wine of Sardinia, also found its chosen land here.
