Tenuta San Francesco

Tenuta San Francesco is a winery that embodies the rich history and tradition of the Amalfi Coast. Nestled in the village of Tramonti, the estate was founded in 2004 by the Bove, D’Avino, and Giordano families.

The winery is renowned for its ancient, 300-year-old pre-phylloxera Tintore vines, with trunks nearly a foot in diameter, resembling small trees. These vines, along with five hectares of equally venerable Piedirosso, form the heart of Tenuta San Francesco's production, yielding distinguished wines such as "Tramonti Rosso," "4 Spine," and "E’ISS." The estate also cultivates five hectares of white grape varieties, including Falanghina, Biancolella, Ginestra, and Pepella, which are used to produce "Tramonti Bianco" and "PerEva." The vineyards, set on steep, terraced slopes with volcanic soil, benefit from low yields and high-density plantings, resulting in wines that truly capture the essence of this historic and unique terroir.

Tenuta San Francesco produces several outstanding wines, but the most distinguished is "E’ISS," a wine made exclusively from Tintore grapes, a local variety from the valley of Tramonti. The name "E’ISS," meaning "This is it," reflects its authenticity as the original Tintore wine, made from 300-year-old pre-phylloxera vines. While other wineries have begun producing Tintore wines from younger clones, "E’ISS" remains a true expression of this ancient grape, preserving the unique heritage and flavor that only these venerable vines can offer.
