TENUTA SANTO SPIRITO
About the Winery
In the midst of Ragusa's Baroque, in Vittoria, on the road that leads from Roccazzo to the ancient Biscari, now Acate, after years of oblivion, the period villa that is now the company headquarters of Tenuta Santo Spirito can be seen again, accompanied by an avenue of cypress trees.
Thus, the project of a young Sicilian family has been realised, giving back to the territory a property with an ancient wine-growing vocation, as testified by the early 20th-century manuscript accompanying the property.
From this land kissed by the sun and caressed by the wind, the grapes of Tenuta Santo Spirito now take on new life and are coloured red with aMarAnto, Chiarestelle and Le Bacche Nere, and white with RoVi and Le Lune.
The wines are born from the skillful cultivation of exclusively indigenous vines such as Frappato and Nero d'Avola, planted with long roots and grafted in the field as was once done to ensure the natural strength of the vine plant.
Tenuta Santo Spirito has been organically managed since its establishment and received certification in 2017. It also takes part in the 'SOStain' project, the sustainability programme for Sicilian viticulture developed with the Ministry of the Environment, a path aimed at pursuing environmentally friendly, socially equitable and economically efficient development. In 2022, the estate completed the long journey of the "ViVa" project, the Certification of Sustainability in Viticulture – further testimony to great care and love for the resources of Mother Nature and a long-term vision to protect this beautiful territory.
The estate now has a production of about 10,000 bottles per year, which is considered the ideal size to maintain a close connection with cultivation. It includes a historic villa now under the protection of the Ragusa Cultural Supervisory, an antique cellar where wines are refined, an orange grove, and an olive field bordered by a cypress-lined boulevard, inviting guests to enjoy long and peaceful walks.

About the Wines
Tenuta Santo Spirito produces the following labels:
aMarAnto – Cerasuolo di Vittoria “Classico” Red D.O.C.G. Organic ( Steel and Barrique version). The most attentive will have noticed the two capital letters on the label, M and A. This bottle, the leader of our production, is a dedication to our sons, Mario and Antonio, as a gift of good wishes to those who want to keep the original project alive.
Our first bottle was a 2014 harvest with maturation of at least 12 months in steel vats and refinement in the bottle for 6 months, as established by the specifications to produce the noblest Cerasuolo di Vittoria, the Classico.
Of aMarAnto you will immediately appreciate the elegance of the colors in the glass, the unmistakable scent of Frappato, the grape variety that more than any other is a witness to the territory of Vittoria, and the body of Nero d'Avola, which gives the typical thickness of Sicilian wines, of grapes ripened in the warm sun of August and hand-picked at the end of September. Elegant and authentic as are the traditions of the territory and the company's vocation, at its first international tastings it was immediately listed among the wines of excellence to arrive to enter the Guida Oro Grandi Vini Italiani Veronelli of 2018 and in the Best100 Wines of 2019 of Golosaria, a food and wine magazine edited by journalists Gatti and Massobrio.
Chiarestelle – Frappato Vittoria Red D.O.C. Organic. In the summer of 2016, the second child of the family was born, a pure Frappato from the 2015 harvest that immediately reminded us of the beauty of a summer night spent by two lovers, hence its name, Chiarestelle. With its freshness and its inebriating floral scent, it generates that atmosphere that we wanted to share on the label, with the starry sky as a backdrop to the intimate toast between two soul mates on any terrace of our splendid world.
Le Bacche Nere – Nero d’Avola Red Vittoria D.O.C. Organic. The pure Nero d'Avola, a grape variety widespread in much of Sicily, finds its original expression in the south-east of the island maintaining its connection with the light and calcareous soils of the territory. We waited a few years and only in 2019, after a long refinement, we bottled a selection of grapes from the 2017 harvest. The characteristics of this wine have a defined olfactory accent, with a pleasantly fruity aroma of black cherry and blackberries and delicately spiced, and the taste is pleasantly enveloping and of good persistence, with an acidity that also guarantees its aging.
RoVi – Grillo e Inzolia White D.O.C. Organic. In 2017, with the purchase of a neighboring property that still bore the signs of an ancient and abandoned wine culture represented by a period cellar with tanks and the second order lever, called "la Cianca", we planted our vineyard of the two white vines characteristic of the area, Grillo and Inzolia, thus reclaiming an ancient vineyard from brambles and neglect. The same RoVi that we thought of putting as a name on the label, to remind us of how we recovered this wealth of Mother Nature from oblivion: and then, if Ro and Vi are the initials of us founders, Romina and Vincenzo... even better. The characteristics of this wine, first harvest in 2020, in our winemaking project replicate in white the mix of body and aromas of Cerasuolo, with a beautiful straw yellow color with greenish reflections and important aromas. On the nose, it is intense with hints of white-fleshed fruit and orange blossoms. On the palate, it is full, savoury, fresh, with a pleasant sensation of minerality that lingers on the palate.
Le Lune – Grillo e Inzolia I.G.T. White Sparkling Organic. Our white wine could not fail to be sparkling, to generate that beautiful festive atmosphere that the bubbles help to create. If then, beyond the bubbles, you feel these floral scents and the typical minerality of our lands, the first sip of the surprise is followed by the other sips that taste the real wine that recalls our beautiful Sicily. Le Lune, an evocative name that recalls our harvest carried out at night of the whites, to avoid any type of stress to the bunches and that already in the early hours of the dawn are delicately pressed to begin their winemaking process, starting from the beautiful nocturnal notes punctuated by the song of the crickets. After the bubbles in the mouth that are never invasive, it is appreciated for the scents and the fresh sensation of minerality that lingers on the palate.
