About Winery and Wines

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Bassano del Grappa, Contrà Soarda is more than just a winery - it’s a living testament to a family’s deep-rooted love for the land. Since 1904, the passion for authentic flavors has guided every step of our journey, from the kitchen of our historic restaurant, Pulierin Enotavola, to the vineyards that now shape our wines.

Driven by passion for wine and a deep respect for nature, in 1999, Mirco and Gloria Gottardi had the courage to rescue an abandoned hillside, breathing new life into its rugged volcanic soil. With unwavering dedication, they planted their dreams alongside the vines, transforming the untouched landscape into a flourishing vineyard. At the heart of this vision was the creation of a truly unique winery - a bio-architectural cellar built entirely beneath the mountain, seamlessly integrated with its surroundings to honor sustainability, tradition, and a low-intrevention winemaking processes that fully allow the wines to express the essence of their terroir.

What was once barren terrain is now a thriving ecosystem where vines grow in harmony with nature. Our organic farming philosophy respects the rhythms of the land, embracing biodiversity and sustainability. Every grape carries the imprint of our unique territory, and every bottle tells the story of our commitment to excellence. Each tasting is an invitation to experience the soul of Contrà Soarda, where fine wines, artisanal foods, and heartfelt hospitality come together to celebrate the beauty of this land.

Contrà Soarda Wines – A Pure Expression of Terroir

At Contrà Soarda, our wines are an authentic expression of the land - identity-driven, shaped by a unique terroir, an exceptional microclimate, and the vision of our winemaker, Marcello Gottardi. Each bottle tells the story of our volcanic hills, the Alpine breezes that sweep through our vineyards, and our unwavering dedication to organic, low-intervention winemaking. Our vineyards thrive under the influence of cold currents from the Valsugana Valley, a natural gateway to the Pre-Alps. This distinct climate, with significant temperature variations, plays a fundamental role in preserving acidity, enhancing aromatics, and creating wines of remarkable freshness and structure. Beneath the surface, our volcanic soils, rich in minerals, lend depth, complexity, and a signature salinity to our wines, making each sip a true reflection of its origin.

At Contrà Soarda, we believe in letting nature take the lead. Our wines ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, following an extremely gentle, low-intervention approach - no additives, no unnecessary manipulations, just pure expression. Marcello approaches winemaking with heart and intuition, refusing to take shortcuts. Every step, from vineyard to cellar, is guided by respect for the land, ensuring that our wines remain vibrant, authentic, and deeply connected to their terroir. As a 100% organic-certified winery, we are committed to sustainable viticulture. By preserving soil fertility, embracing biodiversity, and avoiding chemical treatments, we protect our land for future generations, ensuring it continues to thrive as it has for centuries.

We take great pride in working with indigenous grape varieties that have been part of this region’s viticultural heritage for centuries. Among them, Vespaiola, the signature white grape of DOC Breganze, is at the heart of our production. We explore its versatility through different vinification and aging techniques, showcasing its natural vibrancy, minerality, and expressive aromatics. On the red side, our champion is Marzemino Nero, a bold and distinctive variety full of depth and character. Alongside these native grapes, we cultivate international varieties that have found a true home in our volcanic soils, including Merlot, Carménère, and Pinot Noir. These grapes, while widely known, take on a completely unique personality in our terroir, delivering wines that speak of our land, our climate, and our winemaking philosophy.
