Vislander

Vislander Winery is the largest family-run winery on the Croatian island of Vis, a place with an extraordinary winemaking history dating back to 397 BC, when the ancient Greek colony of Issa produced some of the finest wines of the Adriatic. Rooted in this heritage, the family has cultivated vines on the island since the 17th century, carrying forward a legacy shaped by resilience and passion. One of the most remarkable chapters of this story dates back to World War II, when the family traded wine with British soldiers stationed on the island, creating a unique bond between cultures. Today, Vislander combines tradition with innovation in a modern winery, preserving the island’s identity while crafting wines that celebrate life, history, and the spirit of Vis.

Vislander specializes in indigenous grape varieties that reflect the unique terroir of the island of Vis. The winery is the only producer of single-vineyard Plavac Mali, a bold and structured red wine shaped by the island’s Mediterranean climate, abundant sunshine, and mineral-rich soils. Alongside it, Vugava, a rare native white variety, is crafted in multiple styles, showcasing freshness, complexity, and aromatic richness. The vineyards are cultivated using traditional, sustainable methods, without synthetic pesticides or mineral fertilizers, ensuring respect for nature and biodiversity. In addition to wine, Vislander produces grappa and gin, both deeply connected to the island’s heritage. Each product is an authentic expression of Vis—its land, its history, and its enduring connection to winemaking.
