Vertical Amarone Wine Tasting at Cantine Giacomo Montresor in Verona

Since 1892, Cantine Giacomo Montresor has worked to understand Valpolicella and its greatest wine, Amarone. This tasting sets five of the estate's Amarone vintages side by side, drawn from the last twenty years, so you can taste how different growing seasons leave their mark on the same wine.

A qualified member of the team will lead your visit. The tour starts a short walk in the crushing and fermentation area, moves to the loft where the grapes for Amarone dry for months, and reaches the historic barrel room where the reds age in wood. You will then sit down in the dedicated tasting room.

The tasting itself works backwards in time: you start with the most recent bottling and move to the oldest, comparing each against the weather of its year:
- Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG "Satinato" 2021: The youngest in the flight, with full, primary fruit.
- Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG "Satinato" Riserva 2013: A Riserva with longer aging, deeper and more resolved.
- Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico "Capitel della Crosara" 2009: Mid-aged, showing dried dark fruit and the first savory notes.
- Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico "Capitel della Crosara" 2008: A further step into maturity and complexity.
- Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico "Capitel della Crosara" 2006: The oldest vintage, at its most evolved.

All five are made from Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes dried for months before pressing. To complete the tasting, you can add a board of local specialties: Monte Veronese cheese, soppressa, coppa, and fresh bread with the estate's own olive oil. Children and non-drinkers are welcome and will be served the food platter with water.
