Culminating moments in the local winemaking history include 1876 when the Conegliano School of Oenology was founded, the first of its kind in Italy, and 1969 when recognition as a Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) arrived for Prosecco produced in the 15 municipalities between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. On August 1, 2009, Conegliano Valdobbiadene became Italy's 44th DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllatae Garantita), and finally, in 2019 the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This territory is, in fact, a true cultural landscape where the work of wine growers has contributed to creating a unique scenery over the centuries. The area of Valdobbiadene and Prosecco DOCG is characterized by a particular geomorphological conformation built by a series of reliefs interspersed with small parallel valleys. In this difficult environment, man has been able to adapt, shaping the steep slopes and perfecting his agricultural techniques.
