Douro Signature Tasting and Tour with Sabrage & Fire Opening at Alma Soalheira

Your experience at Alma Soalheira begins in the vineyards. A guide will lead you on a walk with panoramic views over the Douro Valley, explaining how the region's altitude, soil, and local grape varieties shape the wines.

The tour continues inside the winery, housed in the former Penajóia Wine Cooperative founded in 1962. Here, you'll see original machinery alongside modern winemaking technology as your guide shares the history of the estate and its collaboration with small local grape growers.

The visit concludes in the panoramic tasting room overlooking the valley. Two distinct rituals mark the beginning of your tasting: the sparkling wine is opened with the flourish of sabrage, and the Port wine is presented through a traditional fire-opening ceremony. You will taste five wines: a DOC Douro sparkling, a DOC Douro Colheita, a DOC Douro Reserva, a DOC Douro Grande Reserva, and a Port – either LBV or Vintage. You can choose your preferred style for the three still wines (white, red, or rosé) from the winery's selection.

The tasting is paired with local products: three-month-aged cow's milk cheese, olive-filled bread (bola de azeitona), meat-filled bread (bola de carne), rye bread (broa de centeio), olive oil with a Port wine reduction, and walnuts.

Children will be offered water or juice. During the harvest season, they can also try fresh grape must, discovering the taste of the juice before it becomes wine.
