Here at Biddenden Vineyards, Kent’s original commercial vineyard, we pride ourselves on being a family run vineyard with the second and third generation of the Barnes family managing the estate. Originally home to a 40 acre apple orchard, the Barnes family started to consider diversifying the farm in the late 1960s as apple prices began to decline. After listening to a feature on the BBC’s Woman’s Hour programme about English vineyards being replanted, Mrs. Barnes was inspired to turn to viticulture. In 1969, one third of an acre of vines was planted and Biddenden Vineyards was born.

Chapel Down produces a world-class range of sparkling and still wines, together with the award-winning range of Curious beers & cider. Our sparkling wines are created using the Traditional Method, the same as Champagne, from fruit sourced from our own and partner vineyards across the South-East of England. We are proud to supply British icons such as Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver, and you can enjoy our drinks at great institutions such as the Royal Opera House, The Donmar Warehouse and the Turner Contemporary all of which we support. We are also an official supplier to No 10 Downing Street and are the first English wine producer to ever feature in the London Stock Exchange's '1000 Companies to Inspire Britain 2016' and the directory of 'Cool Brands™ 2015/16'. All of which is rather humbling.

Barnsole is a boutique vineyard, a winery, and two passionate wine makers who strive to produce premium quality English wines. Our vineyard is located in the picturesque country village of Staple, situated between the historic city of Canterbury and the delightful cinque-port town of Sandwich. This is fertile land that has been farmed since ancient times. The (loam over chalk) soil regularly offers-up relics such as Napoleonic buttons, musket balls and the odd clay pipe that was discarded by a farm hand, long, long ago. Barnsole’s situation delivers the perfect geology and climate to produce the high quality grapes that make our award winning English wines. We diligently nurture our vines throughout the growing season, listening carefully to what the vineyard tells us. Only when we have heard its whisper can we harness the goodness of each wondrous season. We sell sparkling and still wines directly to the public from the winery door.

With a history dating back to 1503, the exquisite Tudor-framed Hush Heath Manor is the family home of the Balfour-Lynn’s. The Manor nestles into the hill, overlooking the vineyards and estate with magnificent views across the Weald of Kent. A refuge from the cut and thrust of the city, the estate has a Tudor inspired kitchen garden, Italianate yew terracing and Japanese ponds. The 400 acres enveloped in ancient oak woodland is a veritable Eden and a fitting setting for the Balfour wines and vision. The house and gardens are maintained with the same passion and pride as the immaculate vineyards, orchards and winery. To turn his dream into reality Balfour-Lynn was helped by Stephen Skelton MW using his extensive experience with English vineyards. In charge of the winemaking and the state of the art winery is Owen Elias, UKVA winemaker of the year four times with a host of international and national awards to his name. Hush Heath is the only English vineyard dedicated to the creation of Rosé sparkling wine, the aim has always been to produce a wine of world-beating quality one that stands on it’s own as a modern classic.

Set amidst bluebell-strewn woods from which the vineyard derives its name, Bluebell Vineyard Estates is a family-run vineyard and winery with a passion for producing world class sparkling wines. Established on the site of a former pig farm, the transition from swine to vine began as a hobby: the creation of a fine wine collection, an eye opening visit to Romaneé Conti in France and the belief that truly exceptional sparkling wines can be produced in England. The site, once home to thousands of Large Whites, Landrace and Blue Cross Pigs is now home to over 100,000 vines growing premium quality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Seyval Blanc vines. Since our first plantings in 2005, the vineyard has more than doubled in size and we now have 70 acres under-vine stretching across East and West Sussex.

Records for Terlingham Manor tell of a colourful history that dates back as far the 13th century, with the manor even getting an honourable mention in the Doomsday book. Now home to English Wine enthusiasts, Graham and Lorna Wilks, this beautiful ancient red brick farmhouse embarked on its next historical triumph when the vines were planted in 2006. The first Terlingham wine was produced in 2008, with the business raising its profile ever since. Home to one of the UK’s smallest commercial wineries and with all its wines produced on site by hand, Terlingham Vineyard is certainly an intriguing and unique find. But the historical connection goes back further for Graham, as he has returned to the corner of Kent that has been home to generations of his family. Together with Lorna, they have set their hearts on producing top-class English wine from the mild climate and chalky soil of Kent’s North Downs.
