The terraced land of Bargòn is on a hill on the back of Riomaggiore located at the end of the path that from Lavaccio leads to the litoranea road, the path than continues up to Madonna di Montenero and Telegrafo. Back in the 30’sRoberto’s, when Roberto’s father returned from the United States (where he had emigrated ) because of filossera, a fungus of the wines which killed all the plants, and in so doing disrupted the local economy. He bought the ruines and the land located in such a splendid position, sunny and with a wonderful breeze to grow grapes. For this reason Roberto is sometimes locally called “il figlio dell’americano” The son of the american. For this reason Roberto is sometimes locally called “il figlio dell’americano” The son of the american. From then onwards Roberto and his brothers have been growing grapes in the terraces of Bargòn.

Our winery is the oldest in La Spezia. For four generations we have been carrying on with commitment and passion the traditions handed down from father to son for the production of our wines. The nucleus from which it all began is in the heart of the Colli di Luni, where 17 hectares of vineyards extend like a scrub from Castelnuovo to the hills of Arcola, passing through Sarzana and La Spezia. Our winery in the Cinque Terre is more recently built, where we carefully and meticulously vinify the precious grapes that come from the 5 hectares of vineyard overlooking the sea. Each step in production is carefully followed by family members, who constantly work to innovate without losing the essence of the territory and remaining faithful to the family philosophy. We strongly believe in guided tours and in welcoming guests to the winery because in this way we can best convey our enthusiasm and our work linked to the territory.

We are located in Castelnuovo Magra, near La Spezia, in the area rising above the archaeologic site of the ancient town of Luni, where Liguria and Tuscany meet. Our family, from one generation to the next, has been growing vineyards since the late 1970s, in a hilly area close to the sea, getting the better of the rock-hard soil. Our vineyards, which spread over 10 hectares in the DOC Colli di Luni area, extend across Fosdinovo (near Massa), Sarzana and Castelnuovo (near La Spezia) where the winery is located. Age-old and top-quality grape varieties, which are deeply rooted in the local winegrowing tradition: Sangiovese and Vermentino, of which we enhance the main characteristics while preserving their genuineness. The winery’s symbol is the statue menhir, a prehistoric statue of uncertain date which was found in the Lunigiana area. It is depicted on the bottle labels, in a modern version, like a symbolic bridge connecting the past and the present.

The productive structure of Baia del Sole is at the cutting edge of its field: the winemaking area is equipped with the latest technology, and the modern isobaric bottling ensures the utmost care in packaging. The new winery which covers 1600 square meters was inaugurated in 2015 and is structured to blend in with the surrounding landscape: it has been designed and built according to the principles of bio-architecture. This winery which complements the other three existing historic structures, represents the wish to reduce environmental impact and maximise energy savings. The architectural features, at the cost of a great economic effort, function to ensure an environment ideal for wine production whilst respecting the environment. For this reason, the structure, despite being only a few hundred meters from the sea, was conceived almost entirely underground, and has adopted strategies and bioclimatic solutions. The unique and particular choice to build below sea level, aims to harness the natural stability of temperature and humidity guaranteed by the constant presence of the underground aquifer. The underground level houses air-conditioned rooms, used as the barrel room which is the heart of the winery. The area is equipped with barrique and tonneau barrels to allow the wines to rest and mature. The technological solutions used in the wine cellar ensure total control over every stage of production. Solar panels, natural cooling systems, shielded electrical systems, and the use of wood, stone and brick facings are just some of the tricks used to make the structure environmentally friendly and well integrated in an area of great environmental and archaeological sensitivity.

We are the proud owners of a vineyard in one of the most beautiful part of Italy. The place we are referring to is “Costa de Sera”, a peculiar tract of the coast-line with a special microclimate and steep slopes dominating the small bay of Canneto (part of the 5 Lands protected area). The will to give life back again to the “Garden of Litàn”, as grandfather used to call it, spurred us in the year 2000 to begin our adventure recovering and establishing the family vineyards that had lied abandoned for many years. With great passion, dedication, and hard work we finally opened our wine factory in 2006 and, in honour to our grandfather Giulio, we named it “Cantine Litàn”, (Litàn cellars).

A relationship between man and nature that goes beyond trade: Give the soul to plants and see that they reciprocate, talk to them like a son. These feelings you bring in and one day bloom after knowing the kind Francesca, the owner of an old house and the farm Bacchiano: One hectare of land planted with vines and olive trees in ancient drawings, a corner of paradise rented to begin adventure with Laura. We learn the basics on pruning and the ancient winemaking, but already the idea of a short pruning, replanting of selected vines and careful care to recover the old plants, wine-making in "white" to take perfumes and aromas from grapes . The climate right, sincerity, humility to ask and learn, perseverance and love of nature are the many ingredients to take forward the idea of a wine "alive", which has the flavor of grapes and Mediterranean smell. We would like to produce a wine that is "good" for the people and transmit emotion to the connoisseur. The quality wins over the expense of quantity and these lines written and dictated by a quite lifestyle, like today and remain quiet ... ... tomorrow after us.

The family Zangani, original of the ancient village of Ponzano, location of the municipality of Santo Stefano Magra (Province of La Spezia) with an enviable exposure which offers a breathtaking view over the valley of the river Magra, started farming in area since 19th century. Today, with renewed passion, the Farm Zangani has reconstituted the prestigious agricultural fund of Mortedo, old farm already administered by the Malaspina family and at a later bought by Cav. Alberto Fabbricotti, tycoon in nearby Carrara marble, who wanted it for the reputation of agricultural products grown, especially wine and oil. Over the years have added other farms such as: Luisito, the Boceda, Montale, the Fontolo, the Piana, and the Carbonin, and others, everyone already voted for traditional oil production from old olive trees and the cultivation of vines. The new vitality of the Zangani family on agricultural activity of the farm exalts the old vocation of this land, which enjoy an enviable microclimate from the hills and the nearby sea areas.

Today, Paolo supervises and coordinates the work in the cellar and the vineyards with the help of his brother, Lucio.

Cantina Sassarini

Liguria is like a crescent set on the sea. The luminous Tyrrhenian blooms its shores, the Alps and the Apennines - which stay close to it - protect it from winds and invasions. This long, narrow, arched strip of earth, green of palms and olive trees, with colorful houses, scented of flowers, oranges, jasmine and salty, where the most tasty fruits ripen, where the vineyards on the rocks climb between pines and cypresses, where soft hills alternate with rough and steep riviere, is only apparently a continental region contiguous to Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia and Tuscany: indeed it is an island. (A. Morassi, Through Italy -T.C.I.- Milan 1949).
