Natural Wine Tasting in the Colli Tortonesi: Derthona Timorasso, Barbera & Family Hospitality at Azienda Agricola Mombisaggio

Guests are welcomed at a family-run winery in Mombisaggio, in the heart of the Colli Tortonesi, where the experience begins with an introduction to the vineyards, the philosophy of natural wine production, and the distinctive terroir of the Tortona Hills.

During the cellar visit, you’ll discover the estate’s artisanal approach, based on spontaneous fermentations, no filtration or fining, and no added sulfites. The tour also explores the different vinification methods used for red and white wines, designed to let each label express the true character of its place of origin.

The tasting takes place in the winery’s dedicated tasting room or outdoors, weather permitting, offering a relaxed and scenic atmosphere. Guests will enjoy four wines carefully selected to showcase the area’s diversity: two Timorasso wines—one fermented and aged in stainless steel for a crisp, mineral expression, and one fermented and aged in wood for greater depth and complexity—and two Barbera wines, one in stainless steel, highlighting freshness and vibrant acidity, and one aged in wood, offering structure and elegance. Light accompaniments of local artisanal products, such as bread and cheeses, complete the tasting.

The experience also offers insight into Mombisaggio, a small historic village known for its medieval towers, ancient churches, and buildings made of locally quarried white tuff stone. The cellar itself reflects this heritage, having been created within the old family winery using the same traditional tuff blocks. Together, the natural wines, family legacy, and the landscapes of the Tortona Hills create a fully immersive journey into the region’s flavors, history, and culture.
