Discover Matelica: Wine Tasting and Cellar Tour at Gagliardi Winery
Here is what's in store for you
Guests welcomed at Gagliardi Winery will be guided through a complete tasting of six wines — two whites and four reds — for an authentic journey into the flavors of the Matelica Valley.
Starting with the entry-level Verdicchio, guests will then taste two different vintages of the Verdicchio Reserve Maccagnano: the 2023 and the 2022, which marks the 30th anniversary edition and has been recognized by the Slow Wine Guide 2026 as one of Italy’s top wines.
After the whites, the tasting continues with the reds. Guests will begin with Ciliegiolo, followed by two expressions of Merlot. The first is the entry-level red, while the second — Ardiale, named in honor of Umberto’s daughter Alessandra — is the reserve and the most important red produced by Gagliardi Winery. The wines are paired with local products from Matelica, such as salami, cheese, and other traditional specialties, allowing visitors to savor the authentic and genuine flavors of the region.
The experience concludes with a visit to Gagliardi Winery’s underground cellar, with stone walls that maintain a constant temperature and humidity throughout the year. Here, guests can admire the old concrete barrels purchased by founder Gino Gagliardi in the 1950s and 1960s, still used today for wine refinement — a true symbol of the winery’s history and dedication.
