Top Experience: Guided Wine Tasting and Cellar Tour at Lungarotti in Montefalco

At Lungarotti’s Tenuta Brancalupo in Montefalco, overlooking the Umbrian countryside, you are welcomed by the Hospitality Manager and a professional Wine Educator. The experience begins with views across the vineyards, valley and surrounding mountains before continuing through the Salone delle Feste and the estate’s main tasting room.

You then descend into the two-level underground cellar to follow the different stages of winemaking. On the lower level, the Wine Educator introduces the fermentation area and the tanks where the wines begin their transformation. The visit continues in the barrel cellar, where current and older vintages mature in barrels and barriques, giving you a closer look at how time and ageing shape the estate’s most important wines.

Back in the tasting room, you enjoy a guided tasting of four Lungarotti wines, bringing together expressions from the family’s estates in Torgiano and Montefalco.

Brut Millesimato Metodo Classico is a vintage sparkling white made from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, offering a fresh, elegant introduction to the flight.

Torre di Giano Vigna Il Pino Bianco di Torgiano DOC, made from Trebbiano and Grechetto, shows a fuller and more structured side of Umbrian white wine.

The tasting then moves to two of Lungarotti’s most important reds.

Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, made from Sangiovese and Canaiolo, is a deep and refined red with the structure for long ageing.

It is followed by Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, made entirely from Sagrantino, the powerful native red grape associated with Montefalco and known for its intensity, firm structure and ageing potential.

For every glass, the Wine Educator explains the label, grape varieties and production methods before guiding you through its appearance, aromas and flavours. The tasting is interactive, so there is plenty of room to ask questions and compare the four different styles before finishing with the opportunity to visit the winery shop.
