Vineyard Tour, Tasting & Local Food Pairing at Podere Orto in Acquapendente
Here is what's in store for you
Your experience begins at Podere Orto, an estate set 650 meters above sea level in the Monte Rufeno Natural Reserve, at the meeting point of Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany. Here, Giuliano Salesi's family will welcome you and guide you on a tour of their certified organic and biodynamic vineyard.
You'll then visit the cellar to understand their approach to winemaking, which focuses exclusively on native grape varieties. The tour concludes with a seated tasting of five Podere Orto wines. The selection changes with the vintage and availability but may include whites from Procanico and Moscato Bianco, a light red blend, and a red made from Sangiovese, Grechetto Rosso, and Ciliegiolo.
The tasting is built around five food pairings, featuring products from the surrounding area. Depending on the season, you might taste homemade bread with spreads, Purgatorio beans, homemade pasta, raw-milk goat, buffalo, or pecorino cheese, and cured meats like capocollo or prosciutto from local breeds such as Cinta Senese. In winter, the tasting takes place in the main hall of the country house; in warmer months, it moves to the outdoor patio.
