Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €30.00
Bodegas Vallobera is the result of all the love, hard work, patience, and courage put together in a personal dream of creating absolutely unique wines. The project of Bodegas Vallobera was started over twenty-five years ago in 1992 by Javier San Pedro Randez, descendent of vine grower. Javier along with Ana Ortega gave the wings to their family winery whose dream was to achieve and distribute quality wine. Thus, Javier was the first one in the San Pedro family to bottle the wines made with the family’s tradition. The first batch of wines that were commercialized was made in the classic Rioja Alavesa way but from 1994, the winery started aging around 100 casks of their first vintages. The vineyards of Bodegas Vallobera lie nearly exclusively in the Rioja Alavesa subzone, in the shade of the Sierra de Cantabria, which shelters them from the ravages of northern storms. The vines are at an altitude from 500 to 700 meters above sea level and seek a higher quality of grapes than quantity. The main grape varieties grown in the Vallobera vines are Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha,  Viura, Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc. Vallobera is well represented with its famous wines that have earned them recognition all over the world with prestigious awards and accolades.

CONTACT enENG esESP euEUS History After 7 generations of the family linked to the world of wine, in 1978 Teodoro Unzalu and María Felisa Gaztelurrutia built their first winery in Villabuena (Rioja Alavesa). In 2006, their children, the 9th generation of the family, saw the rebirth of the original dream of their parents, fruit from the labour, and the spirit of overcoming: the building of the current winery in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa). Built underground beside the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range, the winery is located at an altitude of 690 metros and surrounded by a vineyard of 57 hectares. Three siblings, Iker, Unax and Usuri currently manage the winery. The 57 hectares of vineyards tended by the winery are the best guarantee of the quality of the wines. The important acknowledgements obtained both nationally and internationally are a sign that the winery is moving in the right direction.

Protected by the cold winds of the Rioja Alavesa, in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, and with the exceptional setting of the medieval village of Laguardia, the Solar Viejo wineries have been making wines with singular personality for more than 75 years with Rioja Designation of Origin. The original winery was founded in one of the emblematic manors of Laguardia, within the walled enclosure of the villa. It was there that the first Solar Viejo was developed, the icon of the winery. The current facilities, built over 30 years ago, are in the vicinity of the town and preserve the essence of that original experience. Vineyards that incorporate the expressiveness of a demanding land with excellent wine, a traditional production method and the incorporation of new technologies are the three pillars on which Solar Viejo is established, a benchmark for the oldest D.O. in Spain.

Bodega El Fabulista
(Winery in Laguardia)

The “El Fabulista” cellar is located in the heart Rioja D.O. in Laguardia, a medieval village surrounded by vineyards and with a rich cultural heritage. Buried seven meters deep, under a seventeenth century palace, the cellar and its wines are named after one of the most prestigious residents of the palace: the fabulist Felix Maria Serfin Sanchez de Samaniego. His fables continue to resonate within the walls of this medieval cave. This medieval underground winery has been adapted to allow the access of visitors any day of the week. The tour begins with the history of the winery and is supplemented by an entertaining explanation of the winemaking process. The tour takes visitors into the basement of the Samaniego palace and covers the differents levels of the cellar, until reaching the three main and parallel drafts that make up the winery, one for processing, another for aging and the last for the tasting of our wines. The “El Fabulista” is one of only two wineries that is still making its wine within the walled city of Laguardia. In this historic cellar the wine is made using traditional methods, with grapes from our own vineyards and grape-treading in the traditional manner. This results in wines with bright and lively colours, fine aroma and very agreeable taste. The visitors will know the origin of the caves and the process of winemaking by the traditional system of carbonic maceration. The “El Fabulista” is not only a large and spectacular historic cellar of the charming town of Laguardia, it is the one in which wine is still made in a natural and artisanal way and where the visitors are invited to participate by stepping on the grape as it used to be.
