G.D. VAJRA - BAROLO
(Winery in Novello)
There is no vineyard, no terroir, without the land. To love it is simple, but not easy. The land is generous and alive. It is beautiful. It needs understanding and time. It takes your breath away with its colors and many wonders.
The land asks for absolute dedication. It asks to be loved for better or worse, in abundance and scarcity. The land is almost more than a house. It's part of our life and asks to be guarded with the same tenderness that we have for our loved ones. And the amazing thing is that, despite all the difficulties, to love it does not need any effort.
Marchesi di Barolo
(Winery in Novello)
Marchesi di Barolo historical cellars are located in the town of Barolo, in the building overlooking the Castle of the Marquis Falletti. It is here that more than 200 years ago a beautiful story began.
The story of a wine cellar where, in the heart of the Langhe area and protected by gentle hills, a wine was born. This wine, as the French tradition suggests, was called Barolo like the town where it was produced for the first time. No one at that time could imagine that it was destined one day to be king: the King of Wines, the Wine of the Kings.
The story begins precisely in 1807, in Paris, when the Marquis of Barolo Carlo Tancredi Falletti married Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a French noblewoman and the great granddaughter of the Sun King’s well-known Minister of Finance. Juliette saw the great potential of the wine made in Barolo that, after a complete fermentation and a long aging in wood, would have been able to unveil all the qualities typical of the soil and of the grape variety: Nebbiolo, powerful and austere, able to last long and to express all the characteristics of this extraordinary terroir.
In 1864, Juliette’s death marked the end of the prestigious Falletti dynasty: in order to perpetuate the Marquise’s memory and charitable work, the Opera Pia Barolo was founded and established in the beautiful Palazzo Barolo in Turin.
Azienda Agricola Di Brezza Giacomo E Figli
(Winery in Novello)
The Brezza private estate lies next to the small town of Barolo, immersed in the vineyards, as is the nearby Hotel Barolo and Restaurant Brezza, also property of the Brezza family.
The estate extends over twenty-two hectars, of which sixteen and a half are vineyards, some dating back to 1885. The wines are all certified as DOCG “Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita” (controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin) or DOC “Denominazione Origine Controllata” (controlled appellation of origin).
Azienda Agricola Grimaldi Giacomo
(Winery in Novello)
Barolo. Langhe. Piedmont. Italy.
Ernesto, Giacomo and Ferruccio Grimaldi.
Three generations that join hands. And whose hands have brought the earth to life. For the love of wine.
Day after day in the vineyards, sniffing the wind, savouring the wait, looking into the distance. Backs bent to the land and eyes gazing to infinity.
Barolo is the king of wines because it demands the most precious resource of all: time.
Ferruccio Grimaldi continues the work of the winery that bears his father’s name: boots on his feet, nose in a glass, hands that tell of a rural, family concern. The finesse of this wine springs from its perfect equilibrium, and the lasting wait. And the beauty of the vista from the winery: the Langhe area and its castles, vineyards and gullies. Man and nature.
Azienda Agricola Le Strette Dei F.Lli Daniele Mauro E Savio
(Winery in Novello)
Our philosophy is to reduce as much as possible any intervention on the vineyards, letting the vine keep its natural balance”. Mauro and Savio express with these words their work in the vineyards. The use of natural products and non-invasive methods enable the right interpretation of the vine, obtain good grapes and, subsequently, an excellent wine. Nature takes its course from the pruning to the ripening: Mauro and Savio control and intervene without interrupting the natural process, but give their support letting it express itself at its best. The vineyards of the winery Le Strette extend over 3.5 hectares in the communes of Novello and Barolo, in selected areas.
Tenuta Rocca Societa' Agricola Srl
(Winery in Novello)
In the heart of the Langhe district, in the Ornati area of Monforte d’Alba, Tenuta Rocca is an estate with 37.06 acres (15 hectares) of vineyards.
From 1986, it was managed by brothers Bruno and Gianni, who constantly modernized the vineyards over the years, and since 2011 Gianni and his son Andrea, an enotechnician, have taken over management of the estate.
The large farmhouse dating back to the eighteenth century has been restored to its original splendour following meticulous architectural refurbishment.
The creation of the modern cellar with underground rooms for optimal development and ageing of wines confirms the commitment, passion and determination with which the wine production that symbolizes the Alba area of the Langhe district is conceived.
In order to compete at the very highest levels of quality, being fully aware of the goals already achieved by the estate and those to which it still aspires, it cooperates with the agronomist Gian Piero Romana, and the enologist Piero Ballario.
Giuseppe Mascarello & Figlio
(Winery in Novello)
Since time immemorial Nebbiolo has been the most highly-prized vine and the wine-growing emblem of Alba and the Langa, and when it is matched with a great wine-making terroir it is capable of expressing itself at sublime levels in wines of remarkable personality, intense bouquet, great smooth tannins, and outstanding possibilities of evolution and resistance over time.
The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s.
AZIENDA GOMBA - CASCINA BOSCHETTI
(Winery in Novello)
Do you know Sergio Gomba? Perhaps, it is easier to know his wines. To tell the story means to reveal the results of a lifetime work, tough and capable. A life spent, in the last 25 years, to cultivate a dream: the rebirth of Cascina Boschetti, just above the village of Barolo. Sergio Gomba’s work has turned the house and the vineyards into a beautiful twenty-hectare estate, in one of the most beautiful locations in the heart of the Barolo DOCG. “The work has never scared me, even now that I have a certain age,” he says without emphasis, this man of few words.
Barale Fratelli
(Winery in Novello)
The Azienda Agricola Barale traces its roots all the way back to 1870 when Barolo wine had just appeared on the scene in the Langhe, promoted by the Marchesi Falletti and Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour.
Francesco Barale, great-grandfather of the current owner, was among the pioneers in the production of this blessed wine. Today Sergio Barale and daughters Eleonora and Gloria carry on the centuries old family tradition. The nineteenth-century manor house in the historic center of Barolo is the administrative and commercial headquarters of the company.
Nearby are the historic underground cellars, where new technologies have been introduced in accordance with traditional rules. The vinification and aging processes adopted are aimed at producing balanced wines in which the characteristics of the grape variety and region of origin prevail.
Simone Scaletta
(Winery in Novello)
Simone Scaletta is a young winemaker who makes his own wine at Monforte d’Alba, one of the 11 Barolo towns. He grows in Località Manzoni five hectares of vineyards with a natural approach, in full respect of the earth and its fruits. Viglioni, Sarsera, Autin‘d Madama and Chirlet are his four vineyards which also give the name to his wines. Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo are wines rich of personality and character, made by natural vinification, which follow several decantings at the right moment and a slow fining, without filtering, giving a balanced, authentic and natural evolution.
“The beauty of Monforte hills, my passion for the wine, the heat of the land of Langa. The feeling I could live as long ago, following the vineyard rhythm, grew in me the desire and the will to recreate the vineyard just where it already was once. The research, respect, acceptance and land exploitation, with its delicate human and natural balance, drove me towards this choice and fully define the personality of my wines.
Today I work five vineyard hectares. This dimension allows me to dedicate attention and cure to every single activity. The position, the climate, the land and the hard man work give a unique expression to every single vineyard. The pruning, the meticulous selection of the grapes fully respect nature times and are made with technical consciousness which researches quality.
Viberti Giovanni
(Winery in Novello)
THE VIBERTI WINERY WAS FOUNDED IN THE EARLY 1900S, WHEN ANTONIO VIBERTI PURCHASED AN INN IN THE VERGNE DISTRICT OF BAROLO, KNOWN AS “AL BUON PADRE”, ALONG WITH AN ADJOINING FARM THAT PRODUCED THE WINE SERVED IN THE TRATTORIA. .
At that time, Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo grapes were the three varieties used by Antonio to produce his wines, which he sold exclusively in the restaurant.
In 1967, Antonio’s son Giovanni became owner of the business, supported by his wife Maria. Maria’s personable nature with the restaurant clientele, has been fundamental in the growth of the winery and the restaurant. As head chef of the family and restaurant kitchen, Maria is committed to the preparation of the freshest local and seasonal produce. With her help, the Viberti family and winery has gone from strength to strength.
The '70s saw the farm in constant expansion, with historic vineyards and a modern cellar, capable of bringing out the best in the grapes within the commune of Barolo. During the late '80s the winery started to experiment the wine making of single vineyard in stainless stell at control temperature and the sales from local moved to European countries. The '90s are crucial for the winery with the first export in the growing USA market.
Today at Viberti Giovanni, Claudio, the youngest son, represents the third generation to run the family business. Claudio is directly committed to the wine making process using his know-how, which has been passed down through the generations.
The winery can count on a total production of 70,000 bottles per year and is constantly growing, with a motivated young staff, ambitious to reach new goals every day.
The BAROLO is the flagship wine, as well as the most important appellation of the Langhe area. The new projects are the soul of the winery: a few years after the release of 'DOLBA', all eyes are now on the new super 'Langhe INISJ'.
