About Winery and Wines

Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa has been founded in the 1900. Still nowadays the Winery bears the name of its own founder – Antonio Scarpa – who was a winemaker from Veneto. In the last 150 years of history different families came to the leading of the Winery, among them there is the family of Mario Pesce, who has been one of the most important figure of Scarpa’s history. Mario was born in 1925. Between 1947 and 1949 – he who was just twenty years old – travelled a lot in France, especially in Alsace and Burgundy. Thanks to this study, Mario introduced new ideas in Scarpa and thanks to the economic boom of the ’70, the Winery increased it’s production and started to export in new countries. It was in this very favorable economical period that the characteristics of Scarpa raised up: high quality, natural cultivation of the vineyards, traditional wine making. These elements are almost expected in the contemporary wine world, but not at that time. Scarpa has been one of the first Cellars who started to speak about this “philosophy” of making wine, when the keyword was “quantity” and not “quality”. Scarpa stands for purity, elegance and time.

The wine making in Scarpa can be classified as “traditional”. But besides tradition, our method of wine making is unique and very personalized. Scarpa has a peculiar tradition finalized to preserve and to spread our “House Taste” and that put us outside the box, above any classification. The wine making is still nowadays very old style. In the fermentation area we haven’t any temperature control system of the area, due to the fact that we don’t want to influence too much the fermentation process that must happen in a circular way, naturally; definitely a sustainable process. More than 50% of our wines have only a refinement in stainless steel tanks, in order to let the varieties express their self. Only the most important Cru aged in big barrels of French Allier oak. In this special way you will find in Scarpa the Piedmontese tradition, represented by the big barrels but also our unique style, symbolized by the exclusive use of French Allier oak, not Slavonian. Our wines usually start to be sold 6 months/1 year after the bottling.
