Armosa

Winery in Val di Noto

About the Winery

Armosa, nestled in the historic town of Scicli in Sicily's Ragusa province, was founded in 2002 with the aim of revitalizing the region's ancient winemaking traditions. The estate planted its first vineyard of Nero d’Avola in 2003, selecting a site with sandy tufa soil close to the sea, ideal for cultivating this iconic Sicilian grape. Spanning 6 hectares, the vineyard follows organic farming practices, with a focus on natural winemaking. Every step, from hand-harvesting to careful vinification, is designed to create wines that truly express the rich history and unique terroir of the region. Armosa’s wines are a testament to the land, offering a sensory journey through Sicily’s vibrant culture and traditions, capturing the essence of each harvest. The estate's commitment to producing wines that reflect the memory of each year ensures that every bottle tells a story of its place of origin.

About the Wines

The wines of ArmosA are all natural and unfiltered to maintain their full tasting integrity. The Nero d'Avola selections include SICLYS, named after the ancient term for Scicli, sourced from the "Filippa" and "Fumaria" vineyards near the sea, and aged for at least 18 months in oak barrels. CURMA is the estate’s "Cru," from the "Le Curme" vineyard, aged for a minimum of 24 months. YRMINUM is another "Cru," a pure Nero d’Avola red wine aged for 30 months, crafted from a late harvest on hillside vineyards. The sole white wine, SALIPETRJ, made from Moscato Bianco, is a dry "orange wine" created through grape maceration.

Quaint small vineyard with good organic wines
This small vineyard near Donalucatta provides god value for money, offering tastings of four different organic wines along with grappa and olive oil, served with meats and cheeses.

ARMOSA WINERY VISIT
A small winery, but one that produces wines of notable body and structure, of absolute quality.
Salvatore, who presented the winery/wines to us, was thorough in his explanation of the production methods, from the vine to the bottling.
The cheeses that accompanied the tasting were also excellent
So everything was great.

Small Nero D'Avola winery
Highly recommend visiting this small winery. Its different from the usual commercial sized wineries and hence offers a more intimate experience. The wines are great as well so you will be taking some home with you. You taste 4 different wines and a grappa for a very reasonable price. If you are on the area make it part of your itinerary.

Wine tour for three
The winery visit was enjoyable from the first to the last minute. They told us everything from grape growing, harvesting, and the winemaking process.
It is clear that all the work put in is the owners' passion. Thank you for the pleasant experience and good luck!
All the wines and cheeses offered were enjoyable. The grappa was smooth and aromatic.

Family visit and tasting – a superb authentic experience!
A fascinating private tour of the Armosa estate, with clear explanations and a wonderful discovery of the Sicilian vines.
The tasting was generous: orange wine, red wines from the tank, grappa, local cheeses and taralli.
An authentic and convivial moment, that we recommend without hesitation!

Very enjoyable visit
We really enjoyed our visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable and during a walk through the vines he shared many details about their organic wine making process that was new to us. After an equally informative visit to the winery itself we then tried a few of their unique wines along with selected cheeses that enhanced the taste of each wine. We highly recommend a visit to anyone who with an interest in the wine process.
