Azienda Agricola Orlandi Contucci Ponno
About the Winery
Situated on the foothills of the valley of the river Vomano, about 2 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea and less than 20 from the chain of the Gran Sasso Mountains (m.2920), Orlandi Contucci Ponno enjoys a privileged climate benefiting from the thermoregulatory action of the sea, as from the breezes coming from the mountains that temper the heat of the summer nights, thus ensuring a regular and continuous cycle of vegetation essential to the development of the organoleptic qualities of the grapes.
The soil in the vineyards is of the alluvial gravel type, with a specific calcareous mixture that has encouraged the planting of vines such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Cabernet, directly imported from France after noting that the analysis carried out on this mixture was completely analogous to that of one of the most appreciated in the Bordeaux area. It is in this context that we have tried to re-evaluate some of the clones originating from the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grape variety, already existing in the area at the end of the eighteenth century, selecting them according to their characteristics in respect of the soil and the microclimate. Produced and vinified as required by its specification, this wine can compete favorably with the more balanced Italian wines.
