About Winery and Wines
Picos de Cabariezo is the story of some "crazy" friends since childhood, passionate about the area and its culture, who in 2000 decided to plant vineyards in the mountainous area within Liebana council, surrounded by the Picos de Europa, whose ancient winemaking tradition had been lost.
Today, their company called Compañía Lebaniega de vinos y licores, known by the trademark Picos de Cabariezo is a pioneer winery and distillery located in Cantabria that has managed to contribute to the growth and recovery of these mountain vines, with a unique microclimate and terroir and a unique personality.
The main grape variety grown by Picos de Cabariezo is Mencía. There are splendid centennial vineyards in the area. This is an extremely rare and valuable vine that can only be found in this area, and Galicia and León. However, other varieties such as Syrah and Gewurztraminer have adapted very well, adding a special touch to the wines. The winery produces a small amount of white wine, but red wine is its largest and most important production.
