Azienda vinicola a conduzione familiare.

About Winery and Wines

Casa Setaro is a family-run winery situated on the fertile volcanic slopes of Mount Vesuvius, where the unique soils, rich in lapilli and effusive rocks, lend distinctive mineral qualities to its wines. The estate spans 12 hectares, with vines planted between 200 and 350 meters above sea level. The winery focuses on preserving and cultivating native Vesuvian grape varieties like Caprettone, Piedirosso, Aglianico, and Falanghina. Through sustainable, manual farming, they maintain the authenticity of their terroir, allowing the wines to express the unique volcanic characteristics of the region.

The winery values the cultivation of these native varieties, combining centuries-old traditions with modern practices. Each vineyard location offers diverse soil compositions and microclimates, enriching the wines' complexity. The grapes are harvested at their peak ripeness, ensuring high-quality production. With an emphasis on low yields and hand-harvesting, Casa Setaro delivers wines that are a tribute to the Vesuvian landscape, from the indigenous Caprettone, often used in sparkling wines, to the more structured Aglianico.

Additionally, the Piedirosso grape, known for its bold, structured profile, thrives in the volcanic soils of the region, contributing to the winery's range of red wines. Casa Setaro also places a significant emphasis on maintaining biodiversity and a balanced ecosystem within its vineyards, following sustainable viticultural practices that align with the winery's deep respect for the land and its natural resources.

Each wine produced reflects not only the volcanic soil but also the climatic conditions of the Vesuvius region, with a focus on creating authentic expressions of the historic terroir. Their careful vineyard management, with respect to natural growth cycles, results in a product that combines traditional winemaking with the best of modern enological advancements.

The cellar of Casa Setaro, located beneath the family home, benefits from the natural volcanic rock of Mount Vesuvius, which provides ideal conditions for winemaking. Combining tradition and modern techniques, the cellar houses stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels for the vinification of their wines. Grapes from vineyards within the Vesuvius National Park are carefully selected, pressed, and fermented under controlled conditions. The wines, including the prestigious Lacryma Christi Riserva Don Vincenzo, are aged in barrels, enhancing their complexity and depth. The space also offers wine tasting experiences for visitors.
