Domaine du Château e Viviers

Winery in Chablis, Petit Chablis, Burgundy

About the Winery

In pursuit of excellence for 800 years, this Burgundy estate was established in the 12th century by Cistercian monks. Its growing reputation led to its purchase in 1399 by the royal cupbearer, Jean Budé.

It was in this way that Château de Viviers wine was served, notably at the wedding of Louis XIV. The current Château was built in 1628 by a musketeer who was close to the Queen. After a 75-year hiatus due to phylloxera and the First World War, the estate was revived in 1978.

The story continues in 2019 with Arnould and Isabelle Lefébure, a Franco-Belgian couple who took over the Château and are now fully committed to organic and biodynamic farming, guided by three pillars: the pursuit of excellence, biodiversity, and history. A land of hospitality and French culinary art, with its charming bed and breakfasts, Viviers invites you to rediscover its exceptional terroirs, protect its beautiful landscapes, and share its wines for greater enjoyment.

About the Wines

With respect for people and nature, we have decided to preserve the unique characteristics of the soils and climates of our three plots and to cultivate them organically and biodynamically.

Our AOC Chablis wines, made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, are hand-harvested and aged in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. The oak barrels act as a bactericide, significantly reducing sulfites and allowing us to create wines with excellent aging potential.

We practice the slow wine movement; nature dictates when the wine is bottled.

Chablis is a dry, mineral wine, but the specificity of ours, achieved through biodynamic soil management, brings greater complexity and a wealth of flavors. Each vintage, each plot, produces a different wine.
