La Vrille
About the Winery
The La Vrille winery is located in the municipality of Verrayes, in the heart of the Aosta Valley, at an altitude of 670 meters above sea level. It lies along the route of the "Via Francigena", in the midst of the vineyards of the Aosta Valley, and its terraced vineyards offer a splendid view of Mont Avic and Mont Emilius.
The vineyards are mostly located in a natural amphitheater and enjoy excellent sun exposure throughout the year. Here grow Pinot Noir (originally from the French region of Burgundy) and the native grape varieties Vuillermin, Petit Rouge, Cornalin, Fumin, and Chambave Muscat — a historic variety rooted in the winemaking tradition of the Aosta Valley, which is produced both as a dry wine and a passito (dessert wine).
The first winemaking in the cellar took place in 2005.
In the barrel cellar, built with vaulted ceilings using the green stone of Verrayes, the Fumin, Pinot Noir, and Vuillermin wines are aged in tonneaux barrels. This same small and welcoming space also hosts wine tasting sessions.
About the Wines
White wines:
With the grapes we grow in our southeast-facing vineyards at 650 meters above sea level, in the municipality of Verrayes, we produce Chambave Muscat and Chambave Muscat Flétri (passito Muscat from Chambave).
The sandy moraine soil of the area enhances the aromatic expression of this grape variety, whose cultivation tells the story of winemaking in the Aosta Valley.
Chambave Muscat was first mentioned in texts dating back to the late 1300s, and the character of this Muscat has allowed it to reach far beyond local borders.
Red Wines:
Our red wines embody the taste of the Aosta Valley terroir.
The morainic slopes, ranging from 600 to 800 meters in altitude, host the winery’s vineyards in a natural amphitheater surrounded by mountains.
Here, on steep inclines and small terraced plots, we cultivate native grape varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin, and Cornalin, along with rare and nearly extinct varieties like Vuillermin, to produce DOC red wines that pair perfectly with traditional local dishes.
