More information on Aosta Valley
Valle d'Aosta is Italy's smallest region, with only about 3000 square kilometers. This valley (in Italian Valle), located on the border with France and Switzerland, winds from west to east and is surrounded by some of Italy's highest mounts, like the Mont Blanc, the Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso. The Aosta Valleyis not only a great destination for winter sports lovers but also wine lovers who want to learn more about the region's excellent wines during wine tastings and winery visits surrounded by scenic green valleys and fairytale castles.
Viticulture in the Aosta Valley is concentrated in an area of about 400 hectares, the majority of which are situated in its mountainous area. This means that during your wine tastings in the Aosta Valley you will taste examples of a regional production oriented towards quality rather than quantity. To date, in the Aosta Valley are present six cooperative wineries and about forty private wineries. Despite the size of the region, Valle d'Aosta boasts one DOC appellation, the Valle d'Aosta or Vallée d'Aoste DOC.
