Lonati Winery | Rocca delle Langhe
About the Winery
Lonati Winery is a dynamic, family-run estate located in Castiglione Tinella, in the heart of the Langhe region, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The winery is led by Marco and Viviana, a young couple driven by a shared passion to honor and elevate the Langhe terroir. Marco, originally from Vigevano near Milan, discovered his connection to nature and winemaking after earning a degree in Agricultural Science and Technology. He left the city to return to his grandparents' estate, where he revived their old vineyards and began producing wines that truly reflect the authenticity of the Langhe, just as his family did in the 1950s.
Viviana, a graphic designer, joined Marco in this venture, applying her creative talents to the labels, packaging, and branding of the winery, while also being fully involved in the daily operations. Together, they have built a winery that expresses their love for the land and the fruits it provides, crafting high-quality wines that are deeply rooted in the local traditions and heritage of the region.
About the Wines
Lonati Winery spans approximately 8 hectares in Castiglione Tinella, producing a range of high-quality wines deeply connected to the terroir of the Langhe. The winery currently offers 3 flagship wines, each focusing on the concept of time, space, and place: Moscato d'Asti DOCG Tempo, Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore Luogo, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo Spazio (vinified with grapes from the Meruzzano cru in Treiso). These wines reflect a deep connection to the territory, symbolized by the three-dimensional metal application on each bottle, applied by hand, representing the preciousness of the wine inside.
In 2023, Lonati Winery is set to release two new wines:
- Langhe DOC Freisa Petra, an unfiltered and unclarified wine, drawing its unique character from the calcareous marl-rich soil.
- Piemonte DOC Moscato Secco macerated Sabula, made from slightly overripe, hand-picked grapes, expressing the complexity and layers of the land's composition.
These wines are rooted in the Langhe's unique soil, formed by ancient seabeds and erosion from surrounding rivers and the Alps, which gives the region its distinct mineral-rich earth.
