Ornina Winery

Ornina Winery’s story began in 2008 when Marco Biagioli, while studying agriculture, revived his family's two-hectare vineyard planted by his father, Orazio, in 1973. Discovering the potential of Casentino’s land, Marco committed to organic and biodynamic farming, ensuring that the vineyard thrived sustainably. With the goal of crafting natural wines that embody the essence of the region, Ornina embraced traditional methods, letting the land's character shine through in each bottle.

The need for a dedicated space led to the construction of a new wine cellar in 2014, inspired by Steiner architecture. Its round shapes and grass roofs blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, providing an ideal environment for winemaking. This new cellar, inaugurated in 2016, now serves as the heart of Ornina Winery, welcoming wine enthusiasts to experience the unique charm of Casentino wines.

The Ornina team, driven by passion and love for the land, works in perfect synergy. Marco, the vigneron, channels his creativity into crafting wines that reflect the spirit of each vintage. His wife, Greta, a certified sommelier, manages sales and hospitality, ensuring visitors feel the warmth and authenticity of their winemaking journey. Together with their skilled team, including Marco Conti, nicknamed "Macgyver" for his resourcefulness in vineyard management, the winery has grown into a family-oriented operation deeply rooted in the traditions of the region.

Ornina Winery embodies a holistic and sustainable approach to viticulture, where every bottle encapsulates the beauty and richness of Casentino's landscape. From the biodynamic methods used in the vineyard to the eco-conscious cellar where wines age, the winery continues to evolve while staying true to its heritage.

Ornina Winery produces a variety of wines, each crafted with care and showcasing unique characteristics. The Mahsará, a sparkling wine with zero dosage, is made from Pinot Nero, Sangiovese, and Trebbiano, known for its copper color and vibrant acidity. Vallechiusa Bianco blends Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Moscato, offering a fresh and dynamic profile. Orblanc and Orgris are white wines that highlight Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio respectively, with Ornoir Pinot Nero standing out for its complex character. Their Trigono red is a powerful, long-living Sangiovese-based wine, produced in limited quantities. Each wine reflects Ornina's dedication to biodynamic viticulture and minimal intervention, delivering authentic Casentino terroir in every bottle.
