Pico Island Cooperative - Picowines

Winery in Azores, Pico

About the Winery

Pico Island Cooperative stands as the largest and oldest wine producer in the Azores and continues to respect and preserve the way our ancestors made wine. It is the culture of respect for the land's history and traditions, combined with the irreverence of new knowledge, that makes Picowines the best of the Azores. The Pico Island Wine Cooperative was founded in 1949, by the efforts of the producers, trying to recover the noble grape varieties and the culture of the vineyard, in a stone corral, which is today classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

The wine tasting was solid - a good variety of wines were offered and the woman who led the tasting was pleasant..

5-wine tasting
The welcome, very good. The presentation was interesting. We were disappointed we couldn't visit the facilities, which were under construction. The tasting was pleasant. But the €25 price would have deserved an accompaniment (olives, cheeses, toasts). I would not recommend this activity. It's worth noting that cellar tastings in France are never paid for. This typically French culture surely influences our opinion.
See above regarding the accompaniment.
