Raíces Ibéricas
About the Winery
Since 1998, Raíces Ibéricas has explored Spanish wine regions to revive native grape varieties, some still largely unknown. In 2020, the dream of a permanent base came to life with the acquisition of a cooperative in Maluenda, Aragón — a region prized for its ideal conditions for Grenache (Garnacha). Surrounded by slate soils, high-altitude vineyards, and the fierce cierzo wind, Raíces Ibéricas now crafts wines using small-batch techniques in concrete, stainless steel, and wooden vessels, while continuing to explore and honor Spain’s rich vinicultural heritage.
About the Wines
The Las Pizarras wine collection highlights the unique qualities of the Calatayud DO region, where Raíces Ibéricas is based. Located within the Sistema Ibérico mountain range south of Zaragoza, Calatayud is known for its high-altitude vineyards (600-1,040 meters) and rugged, limestone-rich soils ideal for viticulture. Each wine in Las Pizarras reflects the diversity of terroirs within this region.
Raíces Ibéricas’ dedication extends beyond Calatayud through the Raíces collection, which celebrates Spain's native grape varieties. With over 70 indigenous varieties across 60 wine regions, Raíces explores the country's extensive viticultural diversity by producing wines that honor the identity of unique Spanish regions, including remote villages and high-altitude vineyards. Through Raíces, the winery brings value and identity to lesser-known Spanish grapes, introducing them to a wider audience.
