Since 1998, Raíces Ibéricas has explored Spanish wine regions to revive native grape varieties, some still largely unknown. In 2020, the dream of a permanent base came to life with the acquisition of a cooperative in Maluenda, Aragón — a region prized for its ideal conditions for Grenache (Garnacha). Surrounded by slate soils, high-altitude vineyards, and the fierce cierzo wind, Raíces Ibéricas now crafts wines using small-batch techniques in concrete, stainless steel, and wooden vessels, while continuing to explore and honor Spain’s rich vinicultural heritage.

LAFOU CELLER
(Winery in Aragon)

Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €34.00
The home of Lafou Celler can be found in Casa Figueras, which is an 18th-century stately house located in the heart of the old town of Batea (Terra Alta, Tarragona). The house was originally built on top of an old oil mill. The winery was founded in 2007 with a desire to produce wines that reflect the greatness of the Garnacha variety and a wine region as extraordinary as the Terra Alta. The landscape, the vineyard terraces, and the gorges make this an ideal place for this variety to express its true greatness.  It was Ramon Roqueta Segalés – who comes from a family with a long wine-making tradition that dates back to the 12th century – who undertook this personal project at Lafou. While studying enology in France, Ramon was seduced by the Garnacha variety, by its expression and its elegance. It was then that he began by looking for the territory where this variety best expresses itself.  Ramon was captivated by the region of Terra Alta (Tarragona) due to its style of Garnacha; its freshness, its genuineness, and its authenticity. Terra Alta possesses a long tradition in winemaking, a characteristic landscape of valleys and gorges, and an authenticity and belief in tradition. Since Lafou Celler was founded, it has aimed to express the values and identity of the territory and the Garnacha variety.

GRANDES VINOS manages the complete cycle of vineyard production as well as the sales of its wines. To obtain the highest quality, in 2002 they inaugurated new installations which cover over 60 000 m2 and which represent a significant investment of about 12 million euros. The installations include the latest technological advances which are constantly being updated and which include a bottling plant that can handle 12 000 bottles per hour. The latest investment was for an automated BAG-IN-BOX packaging line with increased capacity and speed and, in particular, with increased quality, increasing wine conservation with oenological guarantees, an aspect which sets their packaging apart from those that are currently offered on the market. All fermentation tanks are made of stainless steel and the aging room currently holds 13.000 oak barrels, each with a capacity of 225 litres.

In Tosos, in the province of Zaragoza (Spain´s Northeast) at an altitude of 750 metres and atop a hill surrounded by a sea of vineyards stands the Meléndez-Molleda family’s winery. The highest winery in Cariñena (Carignan)´s P.D.o.O. The Hacienda Molleda winery stands in the centre of the estate, surrounded by its vineyards and by breathtaking landscapes towards the Algairén Sierra. A beautiful Mudejar style building, with caravista brick walls, windows with semicircular arches, in accordance with the area’s Mudejar tradition. The viticulture family estate with the highest altitude and largest extension of the PDoO rainfed land, origin of the winery which was built to only produce its own grapes. The winery is designed in two levels, so that in the process of producing the wine, gravity is used, in a fall in which the grape gradually transforms into wine.
