Sanlorenzo
About the Winery
The spirit of Sanlorenzo lies in the dreams that gave it life and continue to fuel its growth every day. Sanlorenzo is rooted in the traditions of Montalcino and its renowned Brunello, yet it also embraces technology, research, and experimentation. Above all, Sanlorenzo values authenticity and respect for hard work, qualities reflected in the exceptional wines it produces and the simplicity of the people behind them.
It was in the late 19th century when Lorenzo Ferretti, who lived in a farmhouse in the hills to the South-West of Montalcino, decided to buy some land where he could build a house. The place was called Rogarelli, and it was here that he started his family; he had 7 children, including Guido. Guido Ferretti married Teresina Caselli and they had two children; Bramante and Giovanni.
The sun rises early that day,
and sets late for the grape pickers at Sanlorenzo,
but in the end, everyone, even the vines,
will have their deserved,
if short lived, rest.
About the Wines
- Brunello di Montalcino: Vinified in stainless steel vats and aged in wooden barrels, this wine is a deep garnet red with a generous bouquet of dry flowers, spices, and ripe fruit. It offers a well-structured body, perfectly extracted tannins, and a long finish. Ideal with game, Fiorentina and Tagliata steak, and aged pecorino cheese.
- Rosso di Montalcino: Vinified in steel tanks, then aged in old barriques of various sizes to achieve optimal balance. It offers fresh aromas of ripe cherry with subtle wood notes, making it balanced and elegant on the palate. Best paired with red meat dishes and cheeses.
- Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Bramante: This Riserva is produced only in exceptional years from the best grapes, aged for over two years in medium-sized wooden casks, and then bottled in its fourth year. It rests in the bottle until January of the sixth year after harvest, offering a rich, complex character.
- Rosato IGT Toscana: Made in small quantities from Sangiovese grapes, this rosé has a cheerful onion-skin color and a fresh nose with green notes. The palate is fruity, with cherry and other red fruits, offering a rich and intense mouthfeel with pleasant acidity and a long, fresh finish.

Excellent Brunello Wine Tasting
A great insight into the production and history of Brunello was provided.
We especially liked that this is a very small and family-run winery.
Excellent tour with lovely host
The wine tasting experience was very enjoyable. We found it difficult to pick a favourite. The accompanying food was high quality and included olive oil prepared on site.
We would definitely recommend visiting this independent vineyard that clearly understands good wine.
