Schola Sarmenti a fantastic winery in Nardò

6/1/17
Schola Sarmenti is a young winery that is located in the south of Lecce, about 10 km from the ionian sea of Santa Caterina. Even though it was founded in the 2000s, Schola Sarmenti has focused everything on the quality of its wines recovering vines with plants grown with the traditional method of the Pugliese tree that are up to 80 years old.

The winery is elegant and has a small cellar in the underground. Nardò is one of the towns of Salento along with Guagnano and Copertino famous for the Negroamaro. And in fact here are produced some great wines based negroamaro. In the cellar there is a cozy wine bar where you can have a good aperitif by tasting the wines, or a beautiful Restaurant in the winery is available by reservation.

To be absolutely tried Nerio a Nardò DOC that was evaluated in 2015 as one of the best 100 wines in the world by TOP 100 Wine Spectator. And then another great wine is 18 a primitivo IGP produced by plants of 80 years that reaches 18 degrees of alcohol. It is an elegant and persuasive wine ideal for meditation.

About Winery and Wines

In the countryside of Salento, you can walk on a red land, greedy for sun. Beyond the dry stone walls – very detailed stone sculptures indissolubly bound to one another – you get lost in a beautiful expanse of vineyards, rich in history – the real soul of Schola Sarmenti. Looking at generations of vines – from the young giving fresh and easy-drinking wines to the 80-year-old ones – is a great pleasure for your eyes. An important choice that Schola Sarmenti made was to preserve an old Apulian training system, called Alberello – a vine training method so hard as precious – used since ancient times. It just needs strong and clever hands to give high quality and prestigious wines. Fiano, Negroamaro, Primitivo are our autochthonous vine varieties whose stories go back to time immemorable, authentic expression of a loving land, pampered from the gentle breeze of two seas.
