Soc. Agr. Corte di Valle Wine and Resort s.r.l
About the Winery
Corte di Valle is a historic wine estate located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, within the municipality of Greve in Chianti, one of the denomination’s most representative territories. The estate unfolds in a highly distinctive hilly landscape, characterised by elevated altitudes and a strong viticultural identity. The vineyards extend over approximately twenty hectares, distributed between two neighbouring yet naturally distinct areas: the vineyards surrounding the historic villa of Corte di Valle and those located on the hills of Greti.
Around Corte di Valle, the vineyards rest on complex, mineral-rich soils with a significant presence of clay and limestone components. These soils favour deep root development and confer structure, tension, and a marked mineral character to the wines, also due to the naturally low yields of the vines. On the hills of Greti, by contrast, the vineyards develop on soils of marine origin, predominantly sandy and lighter. Here, ripening is more regular and progressive, resulting in elegant, harmonious wines with excellent drinkability.
The average vineyard altitude is high, ranging between 250 and 450 metres above sea level, among the highest in the denomination. The climate, historically cooler in the early part of the growing season, promotes slow and balanced vegetative growth; in recent years, rising temperatures have contributed to more complete and harmonious grape ripening.
Sangiovese represents the soul of Corte di Valle and forms the backbone of its Chianti Classico wines. The vineyards are planted predominantly with this variety, complemented in certain parcels by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Approximately 80% of the vineyard surface is dedicated to Chianti Classico DOCG production, while the remaining portion is dedicated to Toscana IGT wines. The estate includes both historic vines and younger plantings, allowing a precise interpretation of each vintage and careful grape selection.
Sangiovese is interpreted differently depending on the vineyard and the vintage, vinified as a single variety or blended when necessary. The philosophy remains constant:
– respect for the soil
– slow, balanced ripening
– elegance over power
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are used only in the estate’s IGT wines, to add structure and complexity without ever compromising territorial identity.
The cellar is where vineyard work takes shape. Each vinification is carried out with care and restraint, favouring minimal intervention and respect for the raw material.
Ageing takes place mainly in stainless steel tanks, or in wooden casks for the most important wines, with durations varying according to vintage and style. The aim is to guide each wine towards balance, depth, and ageing capacity, while maintaining a clear expression of its origin.
